So you guys recommend this machine?
how does GPU score only in 3d mark 06/vantage/11 (without cpu score)?
is it better then gt525?
i get a litle confused by 3dmark06 test -
Calvin, If you can get it now, do it. Every store near me showed them in stock (unaware of the quantity in each store) last weekend, and they disappeared fast. Once I found out about the specs, I didn't waste any time getting to my local BB Store.

You're wrong, period.

Yes, phyxion is the correct place now.

you're getting better performance out of the ASUS 11.8 drivers than the hacked version seriously ?

Just a heads up.. I know you have to pay for it, but the driver cleaner I've been using for a few years now is DriverCleaner.net -- Works great!

Okay I did the driver sweeper, and reinstalled the ASUS Official 11.8 drivers and things are better. I'd recommend running DS in SafeMode though.
But I still have this weird texturing in DX, is anyone else getting this, and/or is this normal....? Included a picture as referenceAttached Files:

That looks like it's normal to me but I don't play that game so an actual player's take would be more valid.gumba213 said: ↑Okay I did the driver sweeper, and reinstalled the ASUS Official 11.8 drivers and things are better. I'd recommend running DS in SafeMode though.

If anyone wants to install or try out Linux for whatever reason, remember I have a http://forum.notebookreview.com/linux-compatibility-software/263869-linux-beginners-guide.html here on NBR for you to use, and there's an entire sub-forum full of information and help.
I will warn anyone who wants to try it though, if you want gaming performance similar to Windows you have to use the proprietary AMD/ATI drivers.
If you decide to use Linux for philosophical reasons, the free and open source software version of the driver is inferior gaming performance wise to the proprietary drivers.
Even if you don't plan on using Linux it's always nice when someone reads my guide and becomes more educated and computer savvy because of it. -

That's on a stock K53TA (reinstalled everything from recovery partition before testing), unmodified, untweaked, etc. I'm not familiar with running 3D Benchmarks but I think I set everything up correctly. Maybe others can comment on their results. -
I noticed this effect when I was using a benchmarking program called "FurMark". I only noticed the effect (it was really noticeable) when I manually turned on the P option, which does post-processing. I believe it was only in the center of the fur doughnut, not the outside of it. You'll kind of have to run the demo yourself to see what I mean. I'm interested in what causes this as well, or what it is I'm seeing. I'm not entirely sure we're talking about the same thing.gumba213 said: ↑Okay I did the driver sweeper, and reinstalled the ASUS Official 11.8 drivers and things are better. I have no idea what's going on here, but this looks like CRAP, there's this awful texturing thats happening in DX and I'm not sure how to fix it... I didn't notice this until I installed the most recent drivers from asus
after some further review it looks like these new drivers significantly lowered my CPU Core temps some how, and am now OC to 2.6GHz with max temp at only 80C. Sweeeeeeet -

Yes. Running Crossfire on stock clocks in DX11 Deus Ex HR is 5-15 FPS faster than 700/1000 OC'd Crossfire 11.6's.gumba213 said: ↑you're getting better performance out of the ASUS 11.8 drivers than the hacked version seriously ?Click to expand...
I get 40-60 FPS everywhere at 1600x900 with 11.8 stock clock Crossfire with SSAO Normal, Antialiasing Off, Shadows Normal, Triple Buffering and Vsync Off, Post Processing On, Tesselation Off (has weird bugs). It runs very smoothly and looks great. Those are the settings I recommend for all K53TA owners. -

Another successful WLAN upgrade. Currently rocking the Killer-N 1102, which is much better than the stock Atheros card. $45 well spent.

I upgraded to 8 gigs of memory today little better synthetic scores and some steadier frame rate in games.

Ok...seriously...what am I doing wrong? I have not been able to get crossfire to work correctly on Deus Ex. With those settings, all I get is weird glitching (flashing) and micro stutter. And when I toggle triple buffering on and off, it fixes it...BUT...did you know that when you do that it disables crossfire? I learned this because I set the catalyst to display the crossfire logo up in the upper right hand corner when its in effect and it disappears when the screen refreshes after toggling triple buffering. Other than that, I have all catalyst options at their factory defaults by choosing it from the preferences button up in the top, right hand corner. Also, I have the latest 11.8 (v8.863) drivers from ASUS's website installed. The only thing different im doing is selecting the "gaming" power profile within catalyst. Any advice?Disgustipated said: ↑Yes. Running Crossfire on stock clocks in DX11 Deus Ex HR is 5-15 FPS faster than 700/1000 OC'd Crossfire 11.6's.

Device Manager says my Atheros Bluetooth is working properly, but I can't get it to work. I saw a few pages back (quite a few pages) that some people were having trouble with USB resuming after hibernation/sleep. There is an option in the power settings to hibernate usb. Right click on your battery icon, choose change power settings, choose advanced power settings, find the USB option. I'm not sure if this will fix the issue or not, but it's probably a good place to start. Also, there is a new USB driver on Asus' website.

Do you have any numbers to show the improvement? I need all the wifi performance I can get. Or perhaps I should upgrade from 3meg Uverse which only gives me about 2.5meg real throughput.saturnotaku said: ↑Another successful WLAN upgrade. The only improvement I need is the ability to run on the 5 GHz, which the Killer allows. Well, that and a constant connection. I was getting occasional, albeit very brief, disconnects with the Atheros. It might have been driver related, and I never updated them before adding the Killer.DMHinGA said: ↑Do you have any numbers to show the improvement? I need all the wifi performance I can get. Try removing all your AMD Catalyst Software via Add/Remove Programs, run Driver Sweeper on SafeMode, run Reg Clean on CCleaner, Reboot and Reinstall the 11.8 Drivers from ASUS website. for $6xx, it sounded like the HP was a pretty good deal. and that partial aluminum sheeting should at least make it more sturdy than the asus. I took apart this asus, and it's very cheap plastic all around.
and looking at the cooling solution in the HP, it appears to be better than the asus.
power4gear has nothing to do with the kb.cerealbox said: ↑Is there a way to utilize the keyboard volume control without downloading power4gear?Click to expand...
the kb shortcuts require only ATK and kbfilter.
power4gear is just a set of power options profiles. You can even set them manually yourself.
after clean install of Win7 ultimate, I didn't even bother to install power4gear. -
anyone notice how the Kensington lock slot is extra deep ?
It has a metal frame inside which provides extra security, but a typical lock isn't deep enough to latch on.
anyone have a lock that fits ? -

Make sure you have the latest chipset package installed from ASUS's website.
1. Have crossfire disabled
2. Set Deus Ex to High Performance (runs on dedicated card only)
3. Catalyst settings are all at default
4. Power profile is "gaming" from catalyst
5. Deus Ex settings are all at default
6. When you are in the game, you will notice a smooth framerate but there is screen tearing like crazy
7. Toggle triple buffering on and then off. If done correctly, you will notice the screen go blank for about a second and then refresh.
8. Go back into the game and you have a decent framerate (30-50 depending on various scenarios) and the best part...absolutely no screen tearing...perfectly smooth.
When you toggle triple buffering, it gets rid of the screen tearing. Why? I have absolutely no idea. Does anyone know why toggling that would get rid of the tearing? -

It will boot up and say "This driver is not suitable for use. Please update and reinstall" or something like that. When trying to install the Sentelic software for the touchpad, it says it is not installed...

Hey guys, still loving this thread, only my second post here. But I see there are now bluetooth drivers on the ASUS page for this laptop. I was wondering if anyone has gotten bluetooth to work? I was unaware this laptop had built in bluetooth and have actually been doing research on what bluetooth module i would need to buy to add it. That search has lead me to nothing yet so if anyone has any info on whether bluetooth is in fact built in or what module i'd need to buy aftermarket I would be beyond thankful. Thanks guys, and awesome thread!!!

so you don't need power4gear to OC, you just need to set your preset to gaming in Catalyst

I had the same prob with sentelic drivers.
Im using the elan and all is working well (espeacily the accidental touching protection thing when you type).
you can download them from the asus website, theres 2 sets of drivers. Newer ones are sentelic and older ones are the elan that im usuing.
