Did a fresh install and got all the drivers again, etc.
Can finally set TOR to "high performance," but still getting terrible FPS in PvP matches.

Can someone PM me with a better OC guide or else help me out personally? The K53TA ought to be eating this game for breakfast.

The way the k53 is designed there are no vents on the bottom of the laptop so unfortunately a cooling pad doesn't make much of a difference. I have one for my wife's acer that made a huge difference on hers but only 1C after several LONG gaming sessions

Agreed. TOR is a dog in PvP and any populated areas no matter what I do.

That's terrible news as I just ordered TOR from ebay not too long ago. Hopefully someone can figure something out before my copy gets delivered :p Purchased the game specifically for PvP and I would hate to be limited to just quests/4 man instances.

Yeah, I was running a computer with less specs at home/while on break and was fine in both PvE and PvP.

here's a good cooler that I'm using on my k53ta. im able to oc cpu to 2.8/3.0 and maintain around 68-70C and around mid 70's when playing intense games (LoL, deus ex, cs, sc2, cod,bf) the thing is... i dont know if they sell this in the states.

Latest CAP profiles have been updated about 6 days ago. Not sure how much more it improves crossfire and single GPU configurations.... But might be worth a look!
AMD Catalyst Application Profile - 11.12 CAP2 download from Guru3D.com
    update: Things look slightly improved:
--I tried Batman AC at my preferred resolution of 1440x900 and am getting better results similar to my old 1366x768 settings.
RESULTS: Direct x9 ;AA FXAA low;very high details ; OC B0 2.6ghz P0 2.2ghz; gpu oc 640/960--> 59 fps Max, 47 avg; (my old 1366x768 results were 61max 47avg); (crossfire 60Max, 47avg, so no drop off with crossfire on.)
--BF3 also seems slightly smoother, but may be about the same at 1366x768.Around 38fps avg. With crossfire on maybe things are improved I was seeing 55 fps a lot, but it might dip to 44fps. So things seem better overall with and without crossfire.

I haven't, but I'd very much like to know about that because I'm running Linux too.

About my previous post page 221: Does someone know if all the guides and comments included in this thread will apply to a K73TA as well?

How are temperatures when your machine is in full throttle and/or idle? Do you feel a difference by using Coolmaster coolpad?
    Thank you for answering.

Ok I did a little benchmark with Prime95 in maximum heat setting.
Those numbers are not 100% exact. It's only an approximation.

    With stand: Idle - 36-38C
    With stand: Prime95 (Large FFTs(Max Heat output)) After 1 test - 60C
With stand: Going back from Max. heat -> idle heat - Approx. 48secs

    W/O stand: Idle - 37-39
    W/O stand: Prime95 (Large FFTs(Max Heat output)) After 1 test - 61C
W/O stand: Going back from Max. heat -> idle heat - Approx. 50secs

It's not a huge improvement, but it's better than nothing.

Maybe if you mod the case to allow the cooling pad to shoot air directly on the cpu and gpu u'll see better results

You're seeing 55fps in crossfire O.O I had better results using the 6650 only and got a BSOD in xfire :O

Not sure why you get bsod on crossfire, works fine for me going back & forth.

I see FPS shoot up even higher than 60fps sometimes, but trying to be as subjective as possible since results vary a lot from scene to scene....Just using Radeon Pro to get a FPS reading from looking at it so not an exact science when benchmarking ; So results are probably the same as you; just passing the news with CAP2 profiles, now it seems that crossfire and 6650 alone have nearly the same great results on a few games...

Maybe I was too much undervolt on my cpu so it crashed? If i umdervolt my cpu, will it affect my integrated gpu as well? Cause integrated gpu is part of the dame chipset as cpu, its like i didnt have enough volt to run perfecly the xfire and cpu together so it.crashed¿ But when i use.same profile with only dedicated im just fine as the gpu use its own power source. Sounds good no? Unless you're undervilt too and you're doing fine, Ill try this later i guess.. when 12.01 will be out in fews days :p

I need to find a K73TA LVDS cable, or at least the part number for it if anyone has an idea. I emailed asus and they were totally useless. I got them an exact model number for the machine I wanted the part from and they still haven't gotten back to me. The 17.3" panels require a full HD LVDS cable and this is the only thing holding us back from using a higher resolution panel in this laptop correctly. The current cable is definitely single channel LVDS. I have a full HD panel, but it will not work correctly without the extra channel as every other line is skipped.

    Just look for a 17" Asus that uses a 1080p screen. Like G71, G72, or G72.

None of them have the same connector on the MB side of the LVDS cable. I decided to make one last effort after my last post, and I finally found the cable by crossing part numbers around and I ordered it. It cost me $41.xx from Europe and I'll be trying it out for everyone. Once I have verified that it works, I will supply everyone with the part number I found and this will be our solution.

As for anyone that's tried upgrading the the A8-3530MX... I verified the issue with that particular processor, they all stem back to the same seller in Naples, FL. If you do get a 3510mx or 3530mx, make sure they don't come from "emerchant2". The 3500M works fine if you just want the extra 80 grpahic shaders on the APU.

I'll update everyone as I move forward with this.

Interestingly enough, this chassis looks awfully familiar to ASUS' A53Z. I picked one up on Amazon for a very very cheap price, and wasn't sure if this was similar to the gem of the K53TA.

Anyone know if they share similarities to the point where components such as the screen can be swappable..even possibly raising the resolution a bit? Stock screen is 1366x768 @ 15.6".

I'm looking for some cooling tips for my A53TA-XE2(K53TA), I bought this laptop brand new from Tigerdirect 2 weeks ago and I don't want to void the warranty especially since Asus included 1 year of Accidental Protection. I've seen the video with the cooling mod but that involves gutting out my laptop. Is there something I can do without voiding the warranty? I have a Coolermaster U2 pad already but doesn't seem to make a difference given that there's no intake vents :/ ...any tips/help is appreciated.

    Thanks

On my laptop, I have some holes on the "underside" situated where the mouse pad is and a few more holes to the left of that. I was wondering if everyone agrees that these are intake vents or are they something else?

I've been making sure my cooling pad is blowing air into those holes, and also opening my Dvd drive partially and trying to direct some air flow into there. But not sure if any of that makes much difference. The most difference I see is between 1-3 C difference possibly 5 C at most.

In the future I'm even considering taking a rotary fan and aiming it directly on top of the laptop directing air flow from Right to left...

The "intake" vent for the cpu fan is right under the "WASD" on our keyboard if that helps anyone at all. If someone wanted to be a crazy person you could take off your keyboard and use a USB one. If you're using a cooling pad you could also try taking off the memory door

is there an easy trick to be able to set the fan at like 80-90% of max speed? I've tried fanspeed without success. I'll open the case soon so if there's a way to bypass wire I'll do it! I've run bf3 today while undervolted (P0 at 2.3GHz 1.25v B0 at 2.4GHz 1.5v) w/o crossfire and w/o dgpu o/c and I've got a max temp of 84C. I've heard the fan kick @ 82C approx.

And something else about crossfire.. When I was playing bf3 today and tried crossfire.. the 1st min or so was not too bad.. but after that it was unplayable. So I close the game and.. .. looks like I was running unplugged! No choice to remove/replug the adapter. Sounds to me that o/c + crossfire take too much watts and the stock a/c adapter cannot supply enough, so it "shut down" to prevent damage.. or I got a broke one.. what do you guys think?

You guys all have such high temps. I RARELY see over 70C. I am OC/UV at 2.0GHz and usually see around 66C. After sustained periods of gaming i'll see up to 69C. A cooling pad really doesn't do anything for me in terms of cooling. I may see 1-2C if i have it placed "just right" on the pad.

I believe what you really mean then is that YOU have really low temps. Everyone else's seem to be in about the same bracket.

Also I think most people who are OC are pushing it up to about 2.3GHz and I think that results in much higher temps.

Ok I'm doing some prime95 now and as far as i can see, I can't go under 1.0125v for 2Ghz.. Almost at the beginning of the test I got an error msg on the 3rd core. And only doing this stress, without using gpu, I got a 73C steady.

Yeah I only OC when gaming. I mostly play CS Source and that's more CPU intensive anyways.

Not every CPU can support the same speeds or voltages so it's possible you may not be able to run the same settings as me or someone else.

Thanks for the feedback on crossfire. I think it's still best to always run games on single gpu configuration as most of us have always done since owning this laptop. I found it interesting with the last ATI drivers, that crossfire improved but I'm still running everything on single gpu, since it's still better for all of us.

As far as temps go, I don't like to see them go near 80C. The highest I've seen so far with most of my gaming is around 74C, but most of the time it's between 66 and 72C on the most intense graphic games. My different gaming oc profiles are:
    B0 2.4ghz 1.225v P0 2ghz 0.9875v;
    B0 2.6ghz 1.2625v P0 2.2ghz 1.05v ;
when not gaming or light gaming:
    B0 2.3ghz 1.2v P0 1.7ghz 0.9625 P1 1.5ghz 0.9375v

btw i want to know.. who's playing bf3 here? I'll add you as friend :)

I HAVE NOT seen any great increases in temps using the "aftermarket" pastes over the stock paste. While my tests were not completely scientific, conditions for each test were the same.

    I've tested with:

stock paste on stock clocks and OC/UV resulted in ~71-72C after several hours of gaming

Antec Formula 7 on stock clocks and OC/UV resulted in ~68-69C after several hours of gaming

Zalman STG1 on stock clocks and OC/UV resulted in 67-68C after several hours of gaming

If i set it on top of an Antec cooling pad i can take 1-2C MAX if it's placed "just right" on the pad, otherwise there is no change in temps.

Whenever I try gettings 0.9875v for 2ghz I of course have to change the ones below to be lower than that one but I'm not sure what to change them to. What did you do to achieve 0.9875v? Every test I try Prime95 has an issue when I try this setup, although if I have it higher than 0.9875v and don't change the ones below everything is fine (with the exception of changing P1 to 1.0000 and P0 to 1.0125)

I really want that 0.9875v to work as I like keeping cool as possible

Then you need to find the speed that works for you at 0.9875v. Every chip and configuration is different.

No mods at all except for cleaning and reapplying thermal paste

Do you guys get any significant/noticeable performance increases (framerate wise) in games by overclocking the gpu?

I'm actually surprised how LOW some of you guys are overclocked. My stock processor and my A8-3500M both have no issue doing 3.0/3.2 for hours on end with the GPU @ 700/1050. I have had the laptop apart about 7 times since I got it. It's fully repasted with Arctic Silver Céramique 2, still has the stock cooling with no additional mods.

As far as the screen, I'm still waiting on the full HD LVDS cable to make its way for Europa. Once I have that, you'll more than likely see the first K53TA with a properly running 1080p internal LCD.
