Thank you! But for example when I try to play with GTA 4, the game uses the 6520 and not the 6650. (I swithed to high perfomance in CCC) . What can I do?

Try repeating Switchable Graphics Application Settings by setting game to high performance.
Sometimes games need 2 or 3 repeat configurations for the high performance settings to stick.

To be sure your graphics are working, make sure you have AMD system monitor to see if the 6600m/6700m series (6650M) graphics are really active (run game in a windowed mode by pressing Alt+Enter, so you can see AMD system monitor while gaming; but this may not work for all games). Make sure you have a recent driver 12.11beta or 13.1 and your game should run as well or better than this video>> GTA IV GTA4 test play on ASUS K53TA laptop - YouTube

And set up CCC in single gpu configuration instead of crossfire: Games run better when you "Disable AMD Radeon dual graphics." To do this in CCC, go to "Performance" tab and select "AMD Radeon Dual graphics". There you can go back and forth between crossfire and single gpu so "Disable AMD Radeon dual graphics" and games will run off 6650m with better performance.

Well, MSI Afterburner played a small roll, and I should probably mention I upgraded to an A8-3510MX and 8gb of 1600Mhz RAM

In ccc select Advanced view in preferences. Then go to Power option on left side of ccc, inside you will see switchable graphic method. select manual. then from switchable graphic option you can choose which graphic card to use. Dont forget to get the latest drivers or you might not see those options.

How much was the total upgrade? Also compared to the standard overclocked A6 and 1333mhz RAM how much extra perforamce are you getting? I can feel that my case is falling apart. I want to superglue it shut but I want to do one last round of upgrades before I do that.

Some where in this thread there was a modified 212 BIOS that allowed you to switch between the integrated graphics and the dedicated graphics card. This will make a big difference in games. Also make sure you do the case mod for cooling because this wil proabbly make the biggest difference in your overclock stability. The CPU will downlock automatically if it gets too hot.

Bought this laptop when it first released but ended up getting with dead battery. Returned and couldnt get another one because it was last one.
Today grabbed same model for $244 on cowboom. I was waiting on newegg to get more refub for $399 so i could get one but I guess i got lucky.
    Currently have HP DV6 with A8-3520m and 8gb 1333Mhz rams([email protected])
Is it even worth to switch out A6-3400 to A8-3520? Seems its same cpu that will overclock to about same.

There is definitely something wrong with these results. It doesn't seem to use the faster GPU. Try not disabling crossfire and see what your results are then

as per CCC> information> hardware> my primary adapter is AMD Radeon 6600M and 6700M Series and disabled adapter is AMD Radeon HD 6520G.

my dedicated gpu should be hd 6650m but ccc is showing as AMD Radeon 6600M and 6700M Series. i dnt know why it is showing like that. Does your ccc also shows it as AMD Radeon 6600M and 6700M Series ?

is there any other way to know which graphic card im using or my dedicated gpu is working or not.

pls tell me where i could have gone wrong.

    Hey everyone,

I'm looking at upgrading my processor and RAM. Right now, I am runnign the A8-3510MX @2.8Ghz OC with 8GB of 1666MHZ DDR3

I am looking at either bumping up to the A8-3550MX, or making the jump to the A10-4600m and 8GB of 1666Mhz DDR3L

There a numerous pros and cons for both processors, like the A10 has a higher boost, and better graphics but it looks like no OC support. While I am fully aware of the OC capabilities of the A8, but it is an again (although still worthy) processor.

    Any insight?

no A-10 in the k53TA period. It wont work.
Upping the processor have minimal effect (if any or not worse) if you are OCing.

There is nothing wrong with this. It is correct. The 6600/6700 display that you see is referring to your 6650.

Not only is it a different chipset, but it uses too much power as well. It's completely incompatible.

Well the chipset makes sense, but I'm running the A8-3550MX now, which is 45W whereas the A10-4600M is only 35w.

The description 6600m & 6700m is correct for our laptop.
The 2 ways I use to see if graphics are active are AMD system monitor and MSI Afterburner 2.3 (both have graphs but MSIa has more graphs like GPU usage, temps, %use graphs to see what's going on real time.) So when you exit a game you can immediately see from the graphs which graphic cards were active.

There may be other programs gpuz, etc but try MSI Afterburner along with AMD sys monitor for best indicators of graphic card activity.

(if you're still having problems with games not utilizing dedicated graphics then try reinstalling graphic card drivers--earlier or recent ones. It's possible Graphic drivers didn't install right. These Radeon drivers can sometimes be frustrating and buggy for some people's systems and you must keep trying different things like uninstalling old drivers with atiman or drive sweeper to do a clean install; But it should still work ok installing drivers on top of previous drivers without uninstalling anything--since this is what I do most times.).

If you're running Windows 7 (or 8 if you download 8gadgetpack), you can place 2 instances of the "GPU observer" gadget on your desktop and set one to the 6520g and one to the 6650m (will show up as Radeon 6600M). When the 6650m is being used, it will show values for temperature and load%. If it's not in use, it will show the temperature and load% as 0.

CPU oc'ed to 2.2Ghz and GPU to 700/1000 no problems and it works amazing. I am surprised by the performance of this laptop but yeah speakers are bad no doubt.

I rarely use the speakers - I usually use headphones when in quiet environments or external speakers when at home on a desk or direct hdmi via the AV system when watching a movie. Nice to see most of our laptops are still holding up ok to current tech after 1 1/2 years & and still appreciated by many of us.

Couldn't agree more. Giving a little TLC from the get-go has really gone a long way to making these worth holding on to. I figure it will still be a viable gaming option for another 2 years. I still love the looks on people's faces when I tell them I got my laptop for a little over $400.

I enjoy bragging about that to my friends as well. I never expected it to hold up as well as it has. I want to get a new laptop but this one always surprises me and performs just good enough for me to not want another laptop.

I am seeing bad reports for 13.2b3 and b4 even in crysis so i'll stick with 13.1 for now, works fine here and perf is fine.

When Crysis 3 is out (Feb 19) there be some new betas so i'll upgrade my drivers then.

Depends on whether or not you value having an optical disk drive.

If you don't need a disk drive:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus/601808-k53ta-best-deal-ever-could-313.html#post8515244

If you do need to keep your disk drive, clone the HDD to the SSD, then download "SSD Tweaker" to configure Windows for your SSD once it's installed. However, keep in mind you can buy an enclosure for your disk drive, and just use it externally.

    Yes, with a custom bios:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus/601808-k53ta-best-deal-ever-could-350.html#post8630217

Played with it some little more : CPU 2300/2600 (1.125/1.2) stable and GPU 700/1000 (13.1 driver).

Played some DmC (50-60fps) and Dead Space 3 (40-50fps) maxed. I bet you can even play Crysis 3 with this thing :D

Wow didn't expect Crysis 3 to run this well on this laptop. The graphics of Crysis 3 are just... WOW, even on the lowest quality settings it beats Battlefield 3 on the highest settings, that's how stunning they are. I ran the Crysis 3 MP beta at 2300/2600 at 1.1750/1.2250 and 720/1000, along with the AMD Cat. 13.2 beta 5 drivers. I got pretty good FPS, on low about 25-40 and on medium I got about 20-35; but trust me when I say it looks absolutely beautiful on the lowest setting, better than any game out right now. But yeah, awesome experience with Crysis 3 MP beta so far. If you have Origin the beta is free to download; just letting anyone know that wants to tryout the Crysis 3 MP beta.

The caddy is not capable of SATA III. Therefore, the SSD will run faster if it is within the laptop and not the caddy.

I thought so because of the lack of listed specifications and posted reviews on the caddy I purchased.

Ran AS SSD Benchmark on a Seagate Momentus XT 750GB and found read/write speeds that are consistent with SATA III performance. Looks like I was wrong.

Yes that's probably simply what you do. I've never done it but it looks like you just need a usb enclosure case which you can get cheap from ebay between $7-$15. Just search "External USB 12.7mm SATA." I'm assuming that's what you need since the SSD needed a 12.7mm SATA caddy.

i posted a while back regarding laptop not charging (while plugged in) with power light blinking (both white power button light and green light under touchpad).... I had to move the cord to certain spot for it to get juice...
today i went ahead and checked out DC port, it was firm in its casing, red wire was well connected, pin is clean and intact.. I don't think port is problem, tried several adapters.. anyone have similar issues?

If you are playing Crysis 3 on this laptop make sure you have crossfire on, yes this time hybrid crossfire really works lol, quite a difference to my surprice up to 15+ fps (tweaked).

Having a CPU at 2200/2600 and GPU at 700/1000 really heats up playing Crysis 3 reaching 78-80c.
