I upgraded my Asus K73E-A1 with a K73SM motherboard, which has a GT 630M onboard. The GPU seems to be working fine -- I noticed an improvement in SketchUp performance. The motherboard was $70, plus $23 for a heatsink/fan assembly (there are 2 versions -- with or without a GPU heatsink).
I also upgraded the CPU with an i7-2760QM -- it's working great. (See my earlier thread about the CPU upgrade).
Here's proof @ userbenchmarks.
And here's the userbenchmark with the HD3000 set as default GPU.

I did more or less the same a couple years ago, N53SM mobo into N53JQ chassis, also with a i7-2760QM CPU, and 4 sticks of 4GB DDR3 RAM, it boots with one 8GB stick, any other combo with 8GB sticks wont boot, sadly.
Good job on the swap, and even tough I dont use my N53 has a daily, its still a pretty decent laptop, with a sturdy chassis, and the battery with around 6 years only has 10% wear level.
