I just pulled the trigger on ordering mine day before yesterday, and am still a little nervous about ordering something so expensive sight unseen. Keep the positive posts coming! Helps me sleep at night until it gets here!

    Aaron,

No offense but if you need other people's approval for something you already made the choice of buying .... you may need a little "help".... buy it for yourself, not someone else.

I believe Aaron's dilemma is quite similar to many others who have purchased a laptop from ASUS or another brand which you have never gotten your hands on.

And in many cases, these people save up enough to finally purchase such an item only by what they read on these forums, from users such as yourself Justin.

I'm in someway.. the same situation as Aaron. Spending $1700 on something you only have seen pictures of, or what other owners praise/regret about there purchase by posting there comments on these forums.

You can walk into any Best Buy or Circuit City and play around with any of there display models to see what suits you best.

It's just different, and Justin.. in your case it's not different, because not only do you own your company where you use an ASUS laptop day-in-day out, others on here have never seen an ASUS laptop in person.

    ...still debating between the W3V, V6V, and z70v :)

Well, one of my friend is using the w3v! ITs! great! The fact the laptop is not too big like the 15.4" or too small like the 12.1, the screen is just the right size! i really love it. the Combination of Carbon Fiber and Aluminum body is great! the graphic card is too good for me, since i dont really do alot of hardcore gaming. Well not too good, it runs just right on when Condition Zero was tested.

Anyway!! i like the laptop but its kinda too expensive for me. SO i'm thinking to get the z70va or Z71v instead. anybody has a comment on this???

That's true and I understand it.... no one on this side of the earth has been using an Asus notebook longer than I have. However at the same time, I've personally spent a lot of time and money out of my own pocket doing everything in my power to get these notebooks out to the public for the past five years........ You're not going to go down to the local best buy and check them out and for that reason it's both good and bad..... if you could, the price on these units would be much higher. Both because the margins aren't enough for big box stores like that and because everyone and their brother says they would have paid more for these systems after they get them and have them sitting their in front of them.

On my side..... I try to do whatever possible to get these out there.... I try to get Asus owners to stay at this forum to give their own reviews and help others.... while I try to help this site and other magazines take units and review them as best as they can. This is the best thing you're going to get at this point, and the ONLY thing you can't physically do by not being able to see them - is really understand the quality... that's what the reviews and customer comments are supposed to help with. Specs, features, pictures... they all tell you 95% of the story and alone tell you how these systems are different from others out there. The feel of the quality of build is something you'll never know for yourself till you touch them... and of all of the things Asus does, their build would be above their design, their specs, their features..... and with reviewers and owners saying the same thing, it's honestly the best thing you're going to get.

My angst isn't brought on by looking for others approval as to which computer I decide to buy. That would put me back in high school. Although, going back 20 years sometimes seems like a great idea :p!

It is, however, nice to hear reassuring things about the quality of Asus, etc. When nearly $2000 is headed out the door and all you have to go on is articles and posts from others, more positive info is always a good thing!

I appreciate the effort you've put into bringing Asus to the fore. Without finding this forum and the many positive comments and reviews, I would never have known about Asus laptops at all.

Can't wait til it gets here. Thanks for the comments.

... ah, but aren't we all looking for a little approval from other people?

You got a good system... the only way you could have gone wrong was if the obvious specs, dimensions, design weren't right for you...... and if you don't know that, you shouldn't be buying a computer for yourself.

Being a "newbie" to this site, I can see that this forum goes a long way to raising awareness of Asus products. You've probably heard this many times, but I had never even heard of this brand until looking at this forum. Now I am seriously considering it (along with Dell 6000, Thinkpad Z60, etc.). Although I haven't decided yet, I can understand the initial poster's "anxiety." Thanks for all of the good information!

The W3V is amazing, I've read all the reviews there are on google's results and I'm nearly there to saving enough, I'm about 80% of the way.

    Two questions if you don't mind;

    1) Do ALL the W3V laptops come in that silver? Because I really don't like it, I love the black version! Lemme see more black! Pro Portable and Nexus are the only sites I've seen where they show the laptop in it's black colour.

    2) The screen is wider than it is tall, this question is aimed at those who have a W3V; doesn't it affect fullscreen applications like Dreamweaver, Word, etc, don't they get crushed?

    3) Is "ATI Mobility Radeon x600 PCI-Express Graphics w/ 64MB VRAM" exactly the same as "ATI Mobility Radeon x600 PCI-Express Graphics 128mb HyperMemory"? I thought there was only one set GPU.

    Thanks
    Dec1mal

Think of the display as a standard display with an extra 25% added to the side, not a standard display with reduced height. I find the extra width very beneficial and you can make use of it in several ways such as: (a) putting more toolbars on a horizontal row, thus giving more working height within the main application panel; (b) putting toolbars to the sides of the main application panel; (c) having open windows side by side.

How is buying an asus any different then a dell? How many people have ever seen a dell in person before they buy it? If they have seen them in person many probably would not buy thus the reason dell makes pictures hard to find.

As in satisfaction wise, I also didn't quite there when there first time I get the notebook. I mean, it's great! Looks somewhat elegant.. but it just didn't enough to wowed me (I had sony S series before) couldn't match the sony beauty. However in many basis but design, asus are way over sony (Sony built by asus anyway, I think..) and what makes me a bit more unsatisfied are the color misleading. In many2 pictures it looks like black but it's not.. well it's kinda cool but because it looks different, not wysiwyg makes me think. well you can check out my complaint on asus at my other posts.. BUT, don't makes these lets you down! I can guarantee every laptop has its weaknesses. It depends on the owner if he choose to be satisfied or not. As I said, Asus is a great notebook. It's sleek, lightweight, cool design, great built, performance in the long run, yada yada yada...

Not sure where you found the misleading pics but from what i see most the resellers on the asus where to buy page post the same exact pics which accurately depict the way it really looks.

As far as I know, the W3v only comes in one colour... unless they have used the W3N for some of the pictures, but i doubt it.

It must be the lighting... ;)

Good point about Dell there, Geared2Play. BTW, UPS tried to deliver Friday evening, but somehow missed me. Thanks for expediting the order. I won't miss them tomorrow! :D

You can call and schedule a pickup, they will leave it in the hub instead of loading it on the truck. All you need is a tracking number
