I need my computer to stay running at all times with the lid closed. there is an option under battery settings to "do nothing" when lid is closed. This semi works however after a few hours my computer is either still going to sleep or hibernating. Im sure I put the all the settings under battery to do nothing. There must be a hibernating setting somewhere or something I missed.

can anyone get this working for me.

    in xp
    Control Panel> Power Options> Advanced Tab>

I imagine it would be located in a similar place in vista.

In vista you need to change the lid close option for every power profile you have... It's under: Control Panel -> Power Options -> Change Plan Settings -> Change Advanced Power Settings

Wait.... wut? I call lies lol. Never had to change it in more than 1 place. Heard people having issues with getting a particular power 4 gear profile to save settings though.

You should have tried it before posting this. If your power profile isn't set by default to 'do nothing' for lid close, you'll have to change it for every power profile in vista (which includes the power4gear profiles).

Edit: Maybe you're misinterpreting what I mean -- if you want it to *always* stay on with the lid closed, that means for every power profile you use you need to change the lid close setting to do nothing. If you only use one power profile then you only need to change that one... but if you use all the power settings you need to change the lid close action for all of them.

Yeah i misread the whole thread, yeah to stay always on you will have to change the settings I thought this whole thing was the usual "my laptop turns off when i close the lid" thread lol. I always set the plugged in mode todo nothing and never have an issue. I put battery mode to sleep except for doing battery testing.
