Hello,
Does anybody have a vague idea of how long the life of a keyboard should be or how long they normally last for. I know for basic typing and such it shouldn't be a problem but i am quite a heavy gamer and am worried about the sort of damage i might be causing the my keys reactivity.
I don't hammer the keys it is pretty gentle movement but still what sort of damage could this be causing?

I doubt it would be causing any damage at all, the only ill effects would probably be a slightly faded keys but it would still work fine. Of course the keyboard will wear as all keyboards do, but keyboards rarely break.

A keyboard will have a long life, as long as its maintained properly, meaning no food consumption nearby, nor water. The only low life it will have is the aesthetics, the dull matte skin they have will slowly fade away into a glossy smooth surface. As well, the key letters or numbers may slowly fade away.

I think keyboards should last for the entire life of the notebook as long as you maintain it correctly. As cori said, just don't spill anything on it and don't hammer the keys...

As a gamer, expect to have very shiny WASD keys. But eventually all the keys get worn down.
I've used a really old Dell which was passed down to me when I was a younger. It saw heavy use in a business environment and to this day I can still plug it in and use it with the keyboard functioning perfectly.

well yes i have noticed that all of my keys have gone nice and shiney, i originally thought may be something to do with oils on skin and such but that would definitely explain it. Also i have noticed tat my letters and such aren't printed on the keys they are like stickers on them, this i realised when looking very closely at the keys.
I do maintain it as in not consume food OVER it and i haven't spillt anything on it either, so that side should be fine and i don't hammer the keys either.
I have got a full 24 month warranty which is like another 19 months left of it in case anything did go wrong.
But i have actually now decided not to take it to chance as in damage the WADS keys as well as components underneath which could also be effected. So i decided to just order a "Z board 'FANG'" for my gaming use.
Thank you for all the advice on the matter though i am now reassured that my keyboard will be working in years to come. -
Yeap, the oils on skin and from food is the number one reason for paint and the 'glisten' on the keyboards, Unfortunately, this is an outcome of wear and tear. They aren't stickers, nor they are printed, it's more like....tattooed, if anything.
Especially for gaming and typing up essays, I use my 20" LCD and external keyboard for that -

That would be quite good then wouldn't it, i do have an external monitor from my desktop but i never pluged it in and it was taking up space so i gave that to my brother..
But i think this Z Board FANG will do me well for gaming, -

If you want you can just get an use an external keyboard.

I did think about that but i would be a big user for desk space wouldn't it where as with a Zboard pad you can just have it next to the notebook, and for £30 it isnt too expensive in my view

The oils on the skin do contribute to the shiny keys... but really, it's because your fingers do wear down the matte surface of the keys as well. If you look carefully, the keys aren't smooth... and they become shiny because they get worn down AND because the oils "corrode" the surface to a small degree as well.
