As some may remember, a while ago I posted a thread wondering why a line of keys on my keyboard (9 O L . to be specific) suddenly stopped working. Eventually I was able to get the keys working again and continued on.

Well, over time, the problem got worse. More keys beyond that line started to stop responding, despite my best efforts to get them working, but now the keyboard has finally had it, dying completely. I'm now forced to use external keyboards to use the thing properly, but using external keyboards kind of defeats the purpose of a laptop.

Even more unfortunate is that I think ASUS and even local computer repair shops can't help. According to a local repair shop nearby a store I regularly visit, they seem to suggest that the keyboards designed for this laptop are out of stock and it's unknown whether they'll ever be made again. ASUS has pretty much said the same thing.

If I could, I'd probably start looking for a new gaming laptop, but money's too tight for that right now. And besides, I've only had the machine for about a year now and it's still fine in all other aspects. I don't suppose anyone here happens to know of another place that would have replacement keyboards available for this kind of laptop? Or am I SOL until I get a new machine?

I checked Asusparts.eu and the G51 wasn't displayed, however a search brought up ... this part. Is that the correct one?

So, what you're saying is, your local best buy and local used-computer shop hucksters won't order you a replacement keyboard, and you're unable to do so yourself?

And the g51 keyboard, the one that's used in almost every g-series laptop, is unavailable? Because that's quite surprising. Especially considering an ebay search shows up something resembling a keyboard.

Maybe I missed something, maybe I didn't understand which model of laptop ... but seriously? Any shop you went to that is a big-box store, won't sell you a replacement/fix when they think they can get you to buy a new one. And any computer repair shop will be able to do the replacement in 10 seconds - especially on the g51. It's a matter of 3 tabs, and no screws (if I remember correctly ... having had THREE g51 models I think I'm right ... then again).

ANYWAYS, please don't ask for help when you obviously havn't done the research on your own.

Wait, never mind. The first place I went to called me shortly after posting this thread and managed to find the proper keyboard. So they're bringing it in and they'll do the replacement.

They were pretty insistent before they found it, though, that since it was out of stock when they first checked that the chances of getting the new keyboard were quite small and they couldn't guarantee anything. And ASUS pretty much told me the same thing.

But, luckily, they managed to finally get one. So, the problem should be fixed relatively soon.

Likely, they went on ebay. Or got it from asus, as the keyboard is generic across all g-series laptops. So yeah, you can't get a g51 keyboard... but a g73 keyboard (which is the exact same) is available ...

Not personally, no. I suppose I could look for a guide on how to open this and find out, I dare not try and open this freehand.

And my luck's changed again, the place that said they found has come back saying they were wrong, they still can't find it in stock. However, they're looking for a G51 keyboard, but perhaps if I tell them to look for the G73 keyboard, maybe they'll have better luck.
