Alright so I will be purchasing this laptop VERY SOON.

But first I really need to verify things.

First and foremost, i have been comparing this laptop with the G50VT-X5. After looking through some threads and posts, it is said both laptops have the same everything spec wise, except for some stuff, such as the X1 having a faster processor by 100MHz, and the X5 having a better battery life due to the 9 Cell.

Okay so here is where the confusion comes in. After looking through many sites and whatnot, I have seen very mixed specs for this laptop. I see 5400 rpm with 667MHz for memory speed in some sites, 7200 rpm with 800MHz Mmeory speed in, others, and sometimes a random combination such as 5400 rpm with 800 MHz, or 7200 rpm with 667MHz.

Based on some threads and posts here, it seems to be confirmed that it is 7200rpm and 800MHz memory speed, but I just want to make sure and clarify. WHAT ARE THE SPECS? I hope its 7200 rpm and 800MHz memory speed.

Also last question, as I said I was comparing it to the X5. So I have to ask. Which is most recommended? On Tigerdirect they are both the same price (refurb) and on Amazon the X5 is only slightly more expensive by like $10-$15. Also consider that I don't care about battery life due to the fact that I will have the computer charging almost all the time regardless, no matter which computer it is (and if anything down the road I will just purchase the 9 cell seperately)

So in my case, is the X1 the better buy? Are the specs 1:1 (other then processor) to the X5?

Thanks for any help sure to come :)

    *edit*

Also should add, in one video review of this product, it was said it had 2 HDD's, but every spec sheet I see only talks about 1. I just dont understand anything anymore :p

    The G50Vt-X1 comes with a 320GB 7200RPM Seagate HDD and 4GB 800MHz RAM.

Personally, I'd go with the X1, not because of the spec difference (those can be user-upgraded), but because of the screen lid design.

So just to clarify, the X1 and the X5 are practically exactly the same, right? Anything a X5 can run, the X1 can run exactly the same, correct? Only difference is battery, slight processor difference, and lid design?

And personally over david, I would take the battery over the 100 mhz. If your planning a cpu upgrade its cheaper that way anyways as the battery is an expensive change that you most likley wont ever do.

yea the 9-cell battery actually cost 170USD from gentech or something. The X5 will be a much better choice cuz sooner or later you will want to take a laptop in places such as the plane and you will benefit with 3hrs battery vs 2hrs.

Well thing is I would be getting the battery as a grad gift ^.^ LOL but I do see what you mean. Now I may consider the X5.

Btw here is the ultimate catch to all this, I can only afford the X5/X1 as a refurbished version (they sell for $727-$759) Does anyone know anything about what warranty is active of any at all with a refurb? On tigerdirect it says a 90 day warranty from ASUS. It's $30 more then the amazon price but I think it's safer. Would you go with tigerdirect over amazon in this scenario? I don't think the one I would be getting from amazon even had any warranty.

I am curious about something. Why are the specs for this laptop all over the place for the most part? Many press websites give mixed ones, and I am curious, if its relevant at all, as to why the specs aren't consistant throughout?

Were there other versions or something? I really hope that when I purchase the X1 from Tigerdirect, it is the sameexact specs listed on the site, which is the 7200 rpm and 800GHz.

Any explanation as to why specs are all over the place? Are they just ignorant, typos, what?

I think there was a previous g50vt-x1 model before it became a Best Buy model. Check Clutch's g50 compendium thread, the model differences should be listed there.

Oh well hopefully the version sold on TigerDirect is the one with similar specs to the X5. If they end up not being the specs listed on the site, I guess I can call regardless and work things out.

So to end all matters, as a person who is not concerned about battery life whatsoever, is the X1 a good/better purchase for me?

I am not really sure about all these things going on. I have been reading Clutch's threads very much, seeing his benchmarks and stuff from both when he initially purchased his X5 to after he upgraded its processor. I don't understand any things quite honestly, like the GTS BIOS or DOX or any of that, I don't know what that is. I only plan to siply overclock the CPU within the computers options when I am gonna play some games. Maybe I will learn all that other stuff later if I spend more time on these forums...

Like, I am curious how do you overclock your GPU? And I have seen some people say they "flashed" their GS to a GT, whats that mean? lol, sorry for my ignorance, all my life I have been a console gamer and have been handed the technology (though weaker obviously)

But yea, as someone who is not concerned with battery life, is the X1 a great purchase? I noticed a lot of users on here have the X5 and I ponder why so many choose it over the X1, is it because of the battery life or is there something I am just not quite catching?

I will be ordering my laptop the 30th so I have time and I am trying to do as much research before anything. I will not lie that the Lid of the X1 is a big time influence, lol....Even though it doesn't matter

*the honest truth is, I didnt even know of the X1 and was completely ready to get the X5...until I looked on Tigerdirect, which is where I first laid my eyes on the X1*
