Hey guys.. just wondering what are the differences between these Kingston RAMs:

I'm guessing that one is value and the other retail?
Also.. I see that Newegg lists the brand compatibility. Which one is most compatible with the ASUS W3J? Thanks in advance.![]()

Kingston is the most compatable ram period with any brand its like the benchmark. they are both the same though so doesnt matter what u pick.

The reason there are different model numbers is because Kingston performed thorough tests with those laptops and decided that it works. If you do the memory search thing on Kingston.com where you tell it what laptop you have, it'll come up with an answer that's guaranteed to work with your laptop, but that'll be quite expensive, compared to Kingston RAM that's not guaranteed for any specific model. Overall, what SRD said - get either one, doesn't matter. And if it just so happens that it doesn't work, you have the option of returning it and getting (most of) your money back - less shipping and 15% restocking fee, that is. But at least shipping back is cheap - 39c
Good luck.

I have owned Kingston before.. Had it in my ASUS Z70va. The reason I asked about those in particular was because they had different model numbers, eventhough they were the same. Thanks for the replies.

Yea basically a way to get more money out of you... Repackage it and no one knows it's the same thing as the cheaper version.

How does Crucial compare to Kingston? I've heard that it is of better quality than most RAM, and that's why the price is a bit higher.. but this one's on sale:

How does that compare to the Kingston I linked before? Also, what are your thoughts on Corsair? -
Both are good brands, and they should work equally well. I think Corsair's specialty is super fast RAM, and I don't know if it's better than Kingston in the mainstream dept. If it's cheaper though, definitely go for it.

Kingston isnt the best ram although they do sell high end desktop ram lines. But they are the brand that are always going to work in your machine. Every mother board maker lists the ram compatable with their board kingston is always on the list. It just has less issues in that sence. I wouldnt say its better just more compatable.

Cool.. thanks malia.zee and SRD
