Hi, I'm trying to buy one of the few L5000GX /L5GX laptops still available.

My vendor says the distributor specs do NOT show a built-in floppy for the L5000GX /L5GX, and also the distributor's specs do not show any 7200 RPM drive capability.

Could someone who actually has a L5000GX / L5GX please tell me: (1)if the floppy is in fact built-in and
    (2)can you actually use a 60 GB 7200 RPM hard drive in the L5000GX /L5GX ?

    Thanks for your help.

    Found this:

    http://www.topmicrousa.com/asl5lp4no.html

Can get a 7200rpm hard drive. Laptops do not come with built in floppies anymore. You could get an external usb one for $20-30 on the internet.

I read ambiguous info on the L5000GX / L5GX and some of it indicates that the floppy is built-in. The manual for the predecessors L5000GM and L5000GA shows a built-in floppy. But there is no manual for the L5000GX on Asus's website and the Asus specs say 3-Spindle but do not elaborate as to what the 3 drives are. I am assuming Floppy, CD Combo and Hard Drive. I wanted feedback from someone who has one of these L5000GX / L5GX laptops to know for sure. Backing up with a floppy drive that is bootable for the backup program and then writing the image to CD-R makes life much easier when you have crashes.

i just got my L5GX last week (OCT.2004), and yes, it surprisingly included a built in floppy disk drive. personally, i would prefer it did not have it, but whatever.

when buying the L5, the main question to ask yourself is this: how important is it to be portable? the L5 is rather heavy, and will not run on batteries for long. without the power saving options (i have yet to set/install) my L5GX on my first trial only had power for 1 hour. not much when you consider some laptops can go up to 8.5 hours on batteries.

another thing to note about battery life: on batteries, the processor and viddy card do not get all the juice they need, and i have read that gaming/DVD playback are no good.

i will let you all know ASAP about my L5 when i get time, later.
