So I think the machine shipped with DDR2 and that they (DDR2 and DDR3) are generally not interchangeable.
But some things online have made me wonder if it is possible to use DDR3 in the machine. This link states the Memory Standard is DDR3 but the Memory Technology is DDR2: http://www.overstock.com/Electronics/Asus-L50VN-A1-Laptop/3463617/product.html
Same on this link: http://www.provantage.com/asus-l50vn-c1~7ASU90P0.htm
And this page: http://www.compsource.com/pn/L50VNA1/Asus_46/
However the Asus page make no note of RAM type. http://usa.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=5&l2=159&l3=844&l4=0&model=2438&modelmenu=2
I do understand that they are different form factors and pin counts, but just not sure if the recess was cut for interchangeability and if the board supports it.

The L50Vn can only support DDR2 Ram.

That is what I assumed. but when I found so many websites that said:

ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
Welcome to the forum!
Under no circumstances can the machine use DDR3 memory -- the slots in the RAM chips are in different places for -3 and -2 chips.
The website info has a typo... it should read DDR2-800 / PC2-6400. -

You can also reference one of my posts here if you're unsure what a "key slot" is on a memory module. A DDR3 memory module physically won't fit inside a DDR2 slot.

Yeah I understand the information. I just wanted to make sure that there was nothing special about the L50Vn that somehow allowed DDR to be used.
This was against my better judgment to ask, but figured I would just in case since I found 3 websites that contained the typo.
Thanks for the answers though.
