I replaced the cracked screen on my ASUS x401a. I received a screen from a guy on ebay, however when i plug it in I only get a black, backlit screen. If i go into desktop via external monitor, it says that the screen panel native resolution is 1024x768 where the native resolution of the laptop should be 1366x 768. could this be the problem? Thank you

I would recheck the ribbon cable connection again. Clearly you wernt given a 5:4 screen right? So that would be an incorrect resolution to what ever screen you got. Unfortunately it comes down to you were probably not given a compatible screen.

There are no drivers, no bios settings. LCD either turns on or it doesn't.

i checked the same original screen and it says the same things under hardware in windows.. says its 1024x 768. It is doing the same thing, only back lighting. I ordered a new display cable assembly for the laptop, hopefully that works. I figured I tore it in some way while disassembling it. Correct me if I am wrong, if the screen worked, it would still show the bios right? regardless of any settings used in windows

Yes, OS configuration is independent of the BIOS setup utility. Remember that the native resolution is determined by the display itself and not the rest of the hardware (only caveat to that is the capability of the display adapter at which resolutions it's capable of driving).
