Wasn't the G2S advertised to have an 8ms response time?

The G1 is a 15.4" screen, while the G2 has a 17" screen. Both screens have different resolutions and physical size. They are both quite good overall, especially vewiing angles. You can see that in the report linked above.

The G1 also has a great screen, with great viewing angles. You have have a look at the G2P review in my signature, there are many pictures of the screen and other laptops.

I'd say that G1 wins by default, 1440x900 resolution on a 17" is enough for an immediate disqualification when talking about quality panels

Resolution is not all there is to screens. If it was, mine would have been one of the best in the world (accounting for the small screen and high DPI). Viewing angles, colour intensity and colour correctness, brightness, black levels and white levels are all factors that heavily affect the quality of the panel.

fabarati there's nothing wrong with your screen, that is what it is suppose to be like. Most if not all 14" screens are known to be like that, but bright, like in the A8js, when compared to other laptops. With the introduction of new technology screens in general will get better.

ttol this is what a lot of people think, I found that the G2 and G1 screens to be excellent to use in all situations and angles. Yes most people here would like a higher resolution on the G2 screen, like WSXGA+ or WUXGA or even a better GPU.

I know there's nothing wrong with my screen. In fact, I quite like my screen. It just feels like it dropped down several positions from it's place in the chart of good screens.

Youre absolutely right here. Theres so much more to a display than resolution. But dont be discouraged with this review for your A8JS display is still top notch for its size. Pay close attention to its color accuracy when calibrated. The A8JS's color accuracy is much better than the M1710.
A fairer comparison would be if the tested four 17" laptops or four 15.4, or four 14.1 etc etc. with simular price ranges. Theres an upswing of approx $1,200 from the MSI to the Dell so with such a broad range theres often gonna be lopsided results when compared.
Its like comparing a HondaCivic with a Cadillac and a Ferrari. Which ones faster and which one has a more confortable ride.
