Could someone please tell me which models of Asus Ensemble and Built-on notebooks (currently released and upcoming) will have an LED backlight in the display?
-
So far, only the U1f has it.
-
I stopped by the Apple store yesterday and one of the salesmen did a demo of the difference between the old MBP and the new LED-equipped MBP and... wow. It seemed about 30% brghter and gave the battery 30 extra mins. Sweeeet.

Chances that Asus will release a LED backlid 15.4" V1 this summer?
Does it hit 1%? Almost? Kinda? Hopefully? -
Most probable would be 2007-Q4 or even more probable 2008-Q1
Most manufacturers have already shown their cards for this August. -
Yep. If anything else gets LED, it will be the S6 refresh, unless Asus changes its plans.

Check out the Sonys. They were the first.

The Sony FZ, TZ and SZ IIRC.
-
only if I'll find a cheaper Vaio or Asus with a LED backlight and 8600GT ..
-
With Toshiba, you got the upcoming R500.
With Lenovo you have the Thinkpad X60, no LED though and the X series have lame XGA resolution. Nowadays, who the hell still works in 1024x768 !?
Yeah, the only ones I know are the Asus U1F, Sony Vaio TX,TZ and Toshiba R500. -
Personally, I'm getting the Asus U1F and buying the 64GB solid state harddrive from Samsung, instead of wasting money on way overpriced Vaios.
-
I wonder if Sony believes that having a Blu-Ray drive makes up for having horrible graphics cards or something -
If Asus had built the U1 with decent battery life to begin with, it wouldn't be a problem... -
I'm not entirely sure, but I was talking to a friend who wanted a LED screen and was torn between the FZ and MBP, so I assumed he's correct.
-
The FZ does not have an LED screen AFAIK. The TX/TXN, TZ, and SZ do have it. HP 2510p and 2710p have it too.

The 32 GB SSD sold by DELL is about 600$ CAN.
I would say the 64 GB SSD will be like around 900-1000$ CAN, right when it comes out.
I'm not in a hurry to buy SSD. I'll wait 6-8 months after it comes out for the price to drop. Samsung is going to mass produce it. Also, as other actors start to offer it, the price will drop.
It has always been like that, just look at RAM and current harddrives.
In my opinion the U1F has decent battery life. If you buy the 9 cell battery you get over 4 hours. The U1F is so light that it doesn't even matter if you add a bigger battery, it's still very extremely light.
If you want extra long battery life like on the Vaio, you have no choice but to accept a Single Core CPU instead of Dual Core. To top it off, Sony is so much more expensive. So much money just for the brand name.
U1F is Dual Core (1.06 Ghz) without Optical drive
Vaio TX is Core Solo.
Vaio TZ is Dual Core (1.06 Ghz) with Optical drive
U1F and TZ are pretty close.
TZ might have a little more battery life but then again do you have the money for it?
Personally I don't need an optical drive. I already have an external DVD-Burner that I can hook up through USB and when I'm on the road I never use the notebook's optical drive.
I also never use notebook optical drive because I'm always scared that it'll break. Replacing a notebook optical drive is really pricey. Replacing an external optical drive is ridiculously cheap.
For me, I feel that the U1F gives me more for my money than the TZ.
Also, the U1F is as good looking as the TZ.
I'm really not sure but I think I read some reviews where they said that the U1F has a bit better performance than the TZ. Someone will need to confirm this for me. I'm too lazy to re-read all the reviews.
I ordered my U1F and waiting for it.
