    Hi everyone,

this is my first post, and it's not even about my own laptop (i just bought a w3j and love it!) Actually my cousin purchased the w5f (t5500, 1gb,100gb hdd) and i noticed that there was a bios update available on the asus site. Are there any w5 owners on these forums and has anyone tried this update yet? Has anyone had the problem of the pop-up window for the volume controls stuck on the screen?

Anyways, any personal experiences would be appreciated, and this forum has definitely helped in my w3j experience!

This is not really a direct response, but I think there may be a lack of W5F users, 'cause I haven't seen that much about them on NBR.

IMO the W5F is one of the best 12.1" screen notebooks you can get, although I might be a little biased. I first started of with the W5Ae (Sgl Core Version) now I just bought a W5Fm the Core 2 Duo refresh. It should be here sometime this week. As for the bios update I havn't had a chance to take a peak at what it offers, once I get my notebook i'll let you know what version I have.

I have one, and since they fixed the sleep problem, which is what the last BIOS update solves, it's a great lappy! :)

But I'm going up to trade up to the V2 or Lenovo Y400, whichever comes first! Then I'm gonna get an S6F in white leather as my back-up lappy!

Is this sleep problem similar to the W3J sleep/hibernation problems, didn't know there was a problem with the W5f's can you give a few more details?

    Thanks for the replies,

yeah i kinda helped in the decision for her to buy the w5f, she's not the most computer literate person in the world, therefore, i'm pretty much her personal "tech support"

Anyways, I'm surprised that the w5f isn't really popular, it looks like a pretty sweet 12.1 inch lappy and i think the only thing that was holding it back was the high price, but it's sure come down to a reasonable price point, (at least in toronto), so it shouldn't be the problem anymore, and for the general female student population, who doesn't do much more than surf, music, videos, and school work, this baby packs plenty of punch to get the job done.

Still not decided on whether i'll update the bios on this thing for her yet tho.

    dancebabe, the screen is glossy.

Silvr6, the W5F was plagued by a "would not sleep when lid was closed" problem. Not everyone suffered from it, but many did. It's now fixed.

The reason this model is not as popular as others is because it's hamstrung by 1.5GB memory and a T5500 CPU, plus no graphics card. Most peeps on this forum are power users, so the W3 and W7 are what more prefer. :)

So the only reason why the RAM upgrade only allows 1.5 is because of the CPU? Does it also mean that now that the W5Fm uses T7200 processor, it means the RAM upgrade can go higher?
