    hey guys

I was perusing the excaliberpc website and saw that they had the VX3, the 12.1 inch version of the VX2, at $3200. I don't know about you guys, but my eyes just popped. Sure, its stuffed with some of the latest stuff such as an awesome process, 4GB of RAM, although the video card is a bit lacking 9300GS. Is it just me or is this laptop way to over priced. Im thinkiing that no ones gonna buy this laptop. What a stupid idea on asus's part to make the VX2 and the VX3 same price. IF you have the money, ur gonna go for the better one, which would be the VX2. Any other thoughts?

heres the site with the price:

The people that drop that kind of money on this kind of laptop have some different considerations, and usually the high price is a bit less of an issue for them than say you or I.

A 64gb ssd for the same price would have made this a tempting offer considering its made with some newer tech. Might even help a little with the battery life -- no doubt needs help. 3.7 lbs with a 3-cell or 9-cell? pretty chunky.

yeah but this laptop is smaller and basically worse than the VX2S, and its priced even more than the VX2S. IM guessing the VX2E (new model) will be the same price. What a rip

That's not really that overpriced at all. Being an ultraportable, compare it to the price of a Sony TZ or Macbook Air and it's right in the ballpark.

If you want to see overpriced, hit up Voodoo or Falcon NorthWest. Last time I checked, Falcon's max config for a 17incher was $18,000.

I can't see no reason why voodoo pc/laptop are so expensive, even ASUS has much better specs then they do, but not that pricy

    VoodooPC is a boutique reseller.
That means they sell rebranded products that are manufactured by other companies and then just call it their own.
They put some shiny colors on the laptops, give you a custom nametag with your name on it (Alienware does this) and you even get a manual that comes in full color and finally put their logo on the machine next to the huge pricetag it somehow aquired.
Most of VoodooPC's laptop lineup are rebranded Clevo's.

You basically just pay a huge bonus for their name on your laptop!

wow..I didn't know about this.. thanks for the info though.. Is this the same thing for alienware too, where they just rebrand products and maybe put them in a new case?

A few years ago Alienware was using Clevo's (just image google Alienware m7700 or Alienware Aurora mAlx) but I think that someone in these forums mentioned that they were using Quanta's right now but I'm not sure.
I bet you don't know that ASUS builds the Macbook's for Apple either :)

Asus has made notebooks for a lot of people, including Apple, Dell, HP (I think), and they even made the PS3.

The key players in the ODM industry are Quanta, Compal, and Asus. There are many others, and the majority of these companies are from Taiwan.

Compal - they make some of the dells, HPs and compaq lines
Quanta - makes dell latitudes, lenovo thinkpads, and some of the sony vaio systems, apple iphone
Asus - as mentioned previously, apple macbooks, dell, toshiba, sony PS3 and more
Foxconn - makes apple MBPs and ipods, and sony PS3
    Wistron - makes Sony laptops

Since we're on the ODM track, and most people are still unaware about ODM/OEM difference, here's some info on lcd TVs

Sony & philips 32", 37", and 42" lcd TVs are made my Ya Hsin Industrial.
Many of the larger Samsung lcd TVs are made by Chi Mei and AU Optronics

Check out emsnow.com for more news on who's buying what from ODMs.

My guess is it won't since the vx3 isn't a refresh of the vx2.

there will be a refresh of the VX2, which si the VX2E, no idea on the ETA but you can expect maybe a couple hundred dollars lower than price right now, with rebate included in that drop.
