Hey guy's, I'm looking for a desktop replacement laptop.

I do alot of gaming, Fallout 3, GTA IV, COD MW 2, etc etc...

I also operate a online business and would use the laptop for all my bookwork, and webdesign with CS4 dreamweaver, etc..

The main reason for a laptop instead of a desktop, is I need to be able to pick it up and carry it with me, for security, and to protect it from my cousin's children...

that said, I had it all narrowed down to the G series, but do I really need to take that 1700 dollar plunge on a G73? Or will the G61 do ok?

I've really never been into laptops, and don't know alot about them, but the time has come to learn, so educate me please!

The g73 is probably the best option available today with its performance we expect it to have for the price its selling for. However, if your looking for any kind of battery life, you may want to avoid the G series as they have very poor battery life as a "gaming" laptop.

if you're not on a budget I'll have to say wait for the m17x refresh.
if you ARE on a budget with around 1700$~ then go with G73JH-a1.
G73JH-a1 is more powerful than g61.

Yeah, the G73 is like the max I would be willing to go pricewise... And only because it seems to offer so much performance, with the icore, blue ray, ATI card, and 8 gig's of memory.

However...and please remember I'm a total noob here when it comes to desktops. Are laptop GPU's that hard to swap out? I mean if I need to later?

No they are not terribly hard to swap out but the ASUS laptops have a custom (reverse MXM) GTX260M so you would not be able to use any old card to replace it.

Ugh.. Well now the G51 series has attracted my attention as well. I see the G73 won't ship until March, and that is just to long to wait and use these library PC's I'm on now for.

The G51jx-a1 seems like a pretty close second to the G73 to me, or am I off my rocker?

Sorry for all the silly noob questions, it's just there's so many different versions of what looks initially like the same thing, I get all confused, lol.

I give up, G73J it is, I guess I'll survive on the library PC's for a bit!
