I have an Asus s96j, and while the notebook is off(completely off, not standby), the battery drains. After having my laptop off for 3 days without external power, I started my notebook with external power to see that it was charging from 0%. Is it normal that notebooks drains while shutdown? Only had the notebook of a few months and I can't find any issues related to the subject.

When the computer is off then the battery should take several months to drain.

What happens if you take the battery out of the computer? If it still drains, then it means that the battery cannot hold its charge. If the battery holds its charge when out of the computer then the problem is in the computer and it will need to go back for repair.

It started at 100%. I always use my computer with external power so only rarely does it go below 90%. I'll try removing my battery to see if it keeps a charge.

actually, it seems this battery drain issue is a known problem with the asus s96j/z96j....at least according to jpz/btotech....

from what i remember, the only work around is to remove the battery after you charge it up.

    I just looked it up...

In this thread, it's mostly an issue of losing 1-2% overnight. My problem is much more similar to jpz's problem, like losing 30% overnight. It would be inconvenient to constantly remove the battery at shutdown. I'm curious to why this isn't considered a bigger issue if all s96j owners encounter some sort of battery drain.

i was talking about jpz's issue. unfortunately, i don't know why asus has done anything about it. have you contacted your reseller to see if he has heard about this issue? i have a feeling that a lot of s96j probably don't notice too much b/c they probably don't use their battery all that often

that sounds like your m/b is draining your battery. in any case you can just ship it back to asus for warranty repair, and they will get to the bottom of the issue for you!
