    Purpose: This program was designed first and foremost as a tool to encourage people to join the forum and participate particually in the Asus forum, both asking questions and helping answer them. The minimum rules below for using the member program are to rule out trolls who only use the forum to absorb information others have given as well as to create a learning environment. We like our customers to be educated about their purchase and they should use this time to make sure they are making the right decision and they know what they are buying. There will be zero exceptions to this rule.

    Job Oppurtunities:

    We at PROPortable are looking for a few qualified regional sales reps to make contacts, give presentations and serve as a conduit for sales (no handling or servicing of the products required). The target markets are medium to large businesses as well as colleges, universities and municipalities. I'd personally like someone with a great knowledge of the products we sell and the more contacts you can bring to the table, the better. If you're interested, you may drop me an email directly with a copy of your resume.

    Note's on Santa Rosa updates:

    First Santa Rosa models will start to arrive around the 3rd week of May:
    W2 update (WSXGA+ version - WUXGA slated for July or later)
    W7 update
    A7 update
    2 - F3 updates
    A8 update (not an update for the A8js model - 128mb 8400)

    Models to likely be updated in the mid-June:
    *Most all of the models that are popular today should see an update around this time...
    A8js update
    V1jp update
    V2je update
    G1p update
    G2p update
    R1F update

    Models that won't see an update until mid-July/August at the earliest:
    Lamborghini Vx2
    S6FM (just updated to N wireless last week)
    U1F (just released a couple weeks ago)
    W5Fe (will come out in May w/ 1gb Nand Flash and 1.5GB DDR2 667 and 2.8 sideshow screen)

    Just note about rebates:
    There is currently a $100 instant rebate on the remainder of W7j's w/ Vista until the end of the month or until stock lasts.

    Finally... anyone here on the forum that wants to get in touch with me outside of aim or email, I have a new extension that reaches me even when I'm out of the office (which is most of the time).. If you dial the 800 number, just type in x518 and you'll reach me. Please though, anything the sales team can answer, please contact them... otherwise, feel free to give me a ring about anything Asus...

    Take care.

    More Santa Rosa Updates:
    Well, Asus is going to seperate the A7 and the G2 a little more this time around.

    $1,800 - A7S: WXGA+/128mb 8400/TV
    $2,100 - G2S: WUXGA/256mb 8600/No TV

    Also, the G1 and G2 updates may be here a couple weeks ahead of my projected schedule... I know the one G1 update was just canceled, and that may have been because the Santa Rosa model is coming a bit sooner than originally expected.

    UMPC Update
    The R2h update is rather nice, but not earth shattering by any means. First, the price is going up $250 to $1,250. The other changes are below:

    900mhz Cel -> 1ghz P-M
    768mb DDR2 -> 1280mb DDR2
    60gb/4200rpm -> 80gb/4200rpm
    XP Tablet -> Vista Home Premium

    The new model is supposed to be arriving in good numbers in a week or so....

    do these offers still stand? im switching over from HP to Asus... kinda last minute... HP did a crappy job with the dv2500t's... only 64 mb graphics card... and the lack of at least xga+ :-\ so is started browsing around and saw some good things about Asus... really good things =)

    so yeah, do these discounts/bonuses still work today? thanks!

    is there any any way we can update our A8JS's 3d card (the nVidia 7700) to the newer 8xxx cards? pretty please?

    Please ASUS, make an 8600 or 8700 for our A8J's MXM slot sell it through ASUS Estore or a reseller for $4-600 each w/ install instructions and a bios update...

    (or maybe make them an unofficial update, spare parts for the newer laptops. just make them physically fit and we'll figure out the rest! we can swap bios's from newer bios updates)

    it wont detract from your newer laptop sales it will really just be for savvy A8J owners who probably wouldnt be upgrading for awhile and might switch brands when they finally do update, (we are a picky discerning bunch we go with their best spec/cost is which the A8JS represents) It helped Dell to allow hacking of their units. Take for example their XPS laptop line, people have been hacking their counterpart the Inspiron 9400,9300 and applying the XPS's videocard which is really the only seperating factor in their XPS line except for the glowing lights, sparkly paint and kiss your ass tech support. Now the "know-it-all" pc buyer is a discerning buyer generally avoids sellers like Dell. but Dell got in good with the know it alls. Generally the know it alls have their loyalty in smaller brands they dont go with bigger corporate cookie cutter laptops like Dells, but Dell got in good because people "figured out" how to hack them and get XPS power in a cheaper Inspiron laptop. im sure Dell had a hand in this, maybe releasing some code or an unlocked XPS bios update because theyve only profited from it in more ways then one... buyer loyalty, underground "know it all"'/hacker appeal..

    cmon ASUS get the same!

    1. ProPortable has dissapeared from the forums for a while now.

    2. Apriori I would say you can't switch GPUs on the A8. Nor on most notebooks out there. I don't recommend hacks such as you mention.

    Reasons for which you cannot switch with newer cards: wrong form factor; possibly different connector; too large TDP. Cause: lack of compatibility and interoperability in the current state of the notebook industry.

    If you want an upgradeable GPU in an ASUS laptop look at the C90 (even that has severe limits in upgradeability).
