Just a couple of interesting stories from around the web.
First up is a review of the A7J over at Toms hardware. Its part of a larger review about gaming laptops....not sure why they picked the A7J for this, but still an interesting review. Noteably they had quite alot of trouble with the ASUS website and online help....this is something that I think most people can agree is ASUS's major weak point. I surely hope ASUS really put some effort into streamlining the process for driver updates and actually start updating the gpu drivers abit more often or switch to allowing standard ATI ones!

Second is a quick story over at digi-times about ASUS's intentions to ramp up whitebook production....perhaps due to poor sales 1Q of its ensemble line up!

Whenever Asus talks about whitebox now, pretty much is talking about VBI, Asus almost forgets BOA models.

A sad thing for a BOA lover like me, Asus still provide BOA models, but all CBB concept.

darn, ohwell, i still want to see a whitebox of the A8jm lol. The VBI and CBB stuff seem so bland, compare to many of the BOA models, but then the VBI and CBB models are much cheaper :D.

So there is a trade off.

    Ohwell, its all good.

    Thanks for the info,

    What's up,
Sorry to jump into the middle of your guys' conversation but what is a "whitebox" model? I know BOA is built on ASUS, VBI is verified (I think?) by intel, but CBB and whitebox are totally new terms to me!
    Thanks,
    Jake

CBB is the Intel Common Building Blocks initiative. Similar to VBI, but not nearly as restrictive and you will see much better looking laptops coming from the "whitebox" ODM channel.

"Whitebox" is the generic term for all BTO (Built to Order) laptops the appear branded by other than the major national brands. What's in a Brand Name?

    What's up,
Thanks again Donald for clarifying the terms and providing the link. Now I can use them and look like I know what I'm talking about! It's nice to see that notebook manufacturers are trying to work together unlike those digital camera manufacturers and all those different types of storage media!

    Amen Jake!

It is in everyone's best interest to have common parts like batteries and AC Adapters in particular.
