    Hey All,

I purchased an Asus A8F a few weeks ago and I picked it up from FedEx last week. Everything was fine and dandy, but yesterday and today I started to have trouble with Closing the lid on my notebook.

I don't know what you call those metal pieces on the top of your screen, I know we all have them... mine are in brand new shape..no sign of wear or any bent to it...but for some reason, when i close the lid...only the right one goes in all the way...the left side does not. After many attempts to line it up just right will the lid securely lock in place.

My question... is this a known problem? Common? What should I do about it? It's kind of a pain for me to send it back because I take notes on it everyday for law school...so if anyone have any idea for a quick fix solution, that would be great.

    Thanks in advanced!

From my knowledge, I've never heard of the lid hinges not fitting into place?

on my A8Jm they fit together and close perfectly...must be a defect

I think its a very popular defect on the A8 design. The metal hooks have to be completely aligned for it to go down. Close it and press the "push" button seems like the best solution for now.

there is also a possibility that the "nob" on the bottom end is too far "towards the user." you could try to poke at it a little with a flathead screwdriver.

a third possible quick fix is sort of to "tug" a little on the LCD towards you when its closing.

and yeah, my slight problem is also on the left side.

Wow, what gusto describe is exactly what I've been doing to close it.... I close the lid (only the right goes in) and I must press the push button for it to pop back up and align properly.

As you can imagine, this is a bit frustrating since I bought an Asus for its build quality (use to have a DELL!).

Thanks guys for your responses and help!

lol, thats because i have your exact same problem! Mabye if you give Asus INT. a call, they'll figure out something for you. Im personally willing to bet its a problem every so often because with hooks like those needing to be so precise, its so easy to be off by a little. However, it wasnt significant enough for me to care :)

If it really is troublesome, I think they'll do something about it. Good luck with that!

dangr I was wondering if you could post some screenshots of your DVD quality playback for comparison with mine and pin's A8F. I posted a thread concerning the video quality on mine. DVD playback looks kinda blurry and blocky (especially in dark segments of videos). I'm just wondering if this is normal with the A8F, or any laptop for that matter that uses WXGA, glossy, truebrite, etc. It would be very much appreciated!
