Note: please mention if the OS was the bundled OS or your own.

    I'll start:

    1) Unable to change settings for touchpad (bundled OS)
If you go to "Control Panel --> Mouse --> Device setting --> Settings" some units get an error:
An exception occurred while trying to run: "C:\WINDOWS\system32\shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL "C:\WINDOWS\system32\main.cpl",Mouse"

Solution: Uninstall the Synaptics driver that came from ASUS and go download version 8.1 directly from synaptics at http://www.synaptics.com/support/drive.cfm

    2) When in Battery Saving Mode, the screen will turn off after a short while of inactivity. I cannot get the screen to turn back on. Doesn't matter if I move the mouse or punch any keys. What I have been doing so far is putting the laptop on Standby and then turning it on again. (bundled OS)

Solution: a work around is too switch to "Battery Saving Mode" and in "Power Options" change the Monitor Off under Battery to "Never". Not a fix but at least you don't have the monitor turning off anymore. If someone knows how to reactivate the monitor once it is off. Please post here and I'll update the fix.

    3) InstantOn button doesn't doesn't do what it is supposed to. I don't know if it is possible to fix that.

    4) Some A8Jm users have occasionally noticed a pink screen when playing video files (bundled OS?)

Solution: It seems this may have something to do with the Splendid software. According to Gusto, this happens each time he changes Splendid modes while playing games. So just remember to change it back when your done.

    5) I noticed that the wireless card sometimes cannot connect to my home network after a restart of the laptop even though the network is fine.

Solution: turning the wireless card off and then on again seems to do the trick

I know where to find Power Options, but I can't find the option in the Power options to prevent screen from turning off.

So, zydus, you've had problem with the screen going off and being unable to turn the screen back on?

Ok, i tried it. Went to Power Options. Selected Power4Gear, and under Battery for Monitor Off, I selected never. Didn't work. The monitor still turned off in Battery Saving Mode after about 1 min and still wouldn't turn back on

user power4gear to select battery savings first. Then change monitor switching off time and hit apply. It should work

i officially have the pink problem everytime i come out of a game in which i adjust the splendid in-game. The quick temperary fix is simply to open the splended technology utility and all will be set back to normal. This may be one of those problems.

I updated the "Solutions" to this problem. So basically your saying you just have to change the Splendid mode to Normal? Let me know if my interpretation is incorrect.

I found I think another bug:

    5) I noticed that the wireless card sometimes cannot connect to my home network after a restart of the laptop even though the network is fine.

Solution: turning the wireless card off and then on again seems to do the trick

    I update my original post

Also, i have noticed that it takes about 1:50 min to start up my laptop now (including the time for the apps in the icon tray to load). Previously, when it was fresh new, it only took about 50 seconds. I only installed a few programs (Zone alarm is the only app I installed that loads on startup) and moved more memory to the D: partition. Could changing the partition sizes affect the startup time?

changing partition sizes after installing windows does reduce performance. However a 2 min boot up time seems a tad long. I am sure mine starts up fast. I'll take a look tmrw, im busying downloading stuff rt now :) and checking if it gets hot and stuf like that by leaving it running over night.

I dont really plan on leaving it on the whoe night like my desktop but no harm in trying. By the way, my mouse pad seems to be really nice rt now, as in teh feedback and the feel for it. I guess it takes some time for it to wear in and then it gets better.

I've got the same issues on W3 : the screen doesn't want to start when on battery, and the Windows starts for about 2 minutes.Didn't change partition size. Also I have "pink movies" but this is weird : when I'm trying to play it on my default player (ALLplayer, you probably aren't familiar with it) the movies are pink, but when I'm playing it with Winamp all is perfetly good. Oh, I disabled Splendid.

THis might be the solution. There's an update to the splendid utility on the asus site. Its date is 12-05-2006. I noticed the one that came with my machine is older. Download from here:

    http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us&model=A8Jm

I havent installed it yet so I dont know. But hopefully this will fix it. There is also an update for the ATK ACPI driver. The DMedia thingy, dont really find much use for it, but might as well upgrade that too.

what is the ATK drivers for?

Oh and BTW, i mentioned this earlier but is Net4Switch important? I'm thinking of removing it. AND also, is there any way to increase the volume of the speakers? I can hardly hear it when playing movies.

i dont think net4switch is important, i didnt delete it just took it out of startup. My speakers are fairly loud :S check the movie.

ATK is an update ACPI driver which power 4 gear / windows uses to change cpu clock speed, standby time etc etc
