I've had my sights set on the V1J for almost a month, BUT I've seen pics/specs of the A8J and W3J and find myself not quite as certain about my decision. I love the smaller/lighter forms offered by A8J and W3J. Both have specs that are very competitive with the V1J. My only hesitation is the 14.1" WXGA resolution. My top three priorities for a notebook are:

    1A. Portability
    1B. LCD real estate
    3. Graphics

I'm gonna go to a Best Buy and see if I like that resolution on some HP and Toshiba notebooks. Difficult decision, but not a bad one. Any one of these notebooks will be a fantastic machine for work/play.

WXGA+ is okay, but I don't see why WSXGA isn't avaliable on 14.1" more consistently. The 15" SXGA on the V6va is a good screen size, and 14.1" is only a few inchs shorter then the 15" screen, so It should work good.

The A8 looks to be fully customizable barebone, so that may float your boat :D

i would say the w3j for portability, but honestly the v1j looks to be about the same size/weight as a z70va which to me is fairly portable so if u can handle it i'd get that instead.

The v1j will definitly be thinner and lighter than the z70va. it will be under 6lbs. at about 1in thick. it might even be around 5.5lbs like the macbook pros and the v6j.

woah woah woah!!! SRD where did you get info like that??? LOL

Dude, no one is certain that the V1J will be 5.7lbs and .88"/1.3" thick
    > I know im speculatiing based on the info you given me... but if your right...****... the V1J is an even bigger winner than all of those other 15.4" gaming laptops in its class.

UNLESS... you actually got some secret info that you can make claims like that.

I am not saying that the V1J will not be thin and light... the question is How thin and light will it be?? hehe

    Thanks,

    MysticGolem

Well, the V1j is, supposedly, a close rival to the MacBook, in terms of, almost everything, performance, size, weight, power, aethestics.

Well, I just got back from BB. I looked at an HP DV4000 and a Toshiba that had WXGA+ resolution. I don't think that resolution is gonna work for me. I'll be hanging on for the V1J... and hoping all these tidbits you guys brought up turn out to be true. ;)

The V1j is simply a widescreen version of the V6j. thats why i assume on its specs. even justin has stated its basically a widescreen version it, Asus v series are going to carry that design characteristic. And as ive seen in other notebooks moving from 15in to 15.4 in will not add any weight really. because its dropping some height and adding width. Just like the v6j is the same weight as the W3j i think it will not even be half a pound more because of it.

Ditto.... V1j weight should be 5.75 lbs... maybe 5.9... but if it cracks the 6 lbs mark, I'd be very surprised and at the same time.. there would probably have to be a good reason for it... all the extra stuff like the camera and the finger print reader and most likely going with an x1600 which is going to need more of a room for cooling.... all those things add up... but I think under 6 lbs is very likely.
