my a8js has light leakage but it's acceptable. but yours is far from comparison. But personally I dont worry about light leakage. because it's will not be noticeable on other backgrounds besides black. and like others mentioned, almost all the laptop screens have light leakages.

It's hard to say, it could be the camera exposure that's exaggerating the leakage. How about a screenshot with a bit of proper white balance and make the black screen the Windows Default screensaver(so we can compare it easier).

Yes,The light leakage can get worse over the time. But more importantly, can you still take it to warranty ? Ask your deal.I must say it's very rare for an ASUS W3J to have screen problems.

    Cori,
How can I change the white balance? Also, I will take a screen shot and post it.

    Thanks.

Just edit the picture with photoshop so the image really represents accurately what you are seeing.

Are you sure that's white balance? This is because when I look at the screen at a lower angle, it doesn't seem like there is any leakage at all.

That's right it is not light leakage, that is just the angle in which you take a picture of a black screen. I can take pictures of all laptops and depending on the angles I can get the exact same result each and everytime.

Here's what I would do to get a proper light leakage photo, turn off all lights, close the windows, wait till it is dark outside. Take your camera and take a picture with the flash OFF, and try one with the Flash is ON.

You back ground can be the Screen Saver, Windows Logo, set to 1 Minute.

    Try that. ;)

yeap, im pretty sure its the angle, when windows is loading I look at it from different angles and it APPEARS it has light leakage in different areas depending on the angle im looking at it from.

I have the identical light leakage on my W3J. The angle the camera is at now seems to be the optical viewing angle for me. It is very very horrid backlight leakage. Pictures other people have posted about the light leakage are the same... I can't understand how Asus let something like this pass.

I've gotten used to it mostly, but with the all the games I play I'm staring at the leakage a lot.

All laptops have some light leakage. I do not know why, but they do. Sorry :(

That does seem to be quite an excessive amount of light leakage... even for a 14" screen... (which on average tend to be quite bad).
I can't say if that's normal for the W3J or not though, since I don't see them regularly... perhaps e-mailing several pictures to Asus or your dealer may help.
