I purchased an ASUS F3Sa a couple of months ago and have installed all the latest software updates available. One of the pre-installed applications that I updated was the LightScribe Control Panel. However, the LightScribe Control Panel does not find a LightScribe compatible drive.
My notebook has a Mats-h-i-ta DVD-RAM UJ-860S drive installed. It came with LightScribe software installed. But I cannot verify whether the drive is a LightScribe compatible drive.
Any suggestions?

My F3SV also came with the SW installed, and my drive is not Lightscribe compatible. I uninstalled the SW. The following is from teh Lightscribe website:
"If you have LSS version 1.4.87.1 or newer, you may also manually uninstall the LSS with the following sequence.
Locate the directory where the LightScribe system files are stored. This is assuming your system drive is C:\\ otherwise, replace with your system drive letter). c:\\program files\common files\lightscribe.
Find and right click the file named LS_HSI.msi, then choose "Uninstall".
Reboot. The LSS should be uninstalled from your computer. This will enable you to install an existing or older version of the LSS if you choose to do so. "

Let me clarify my question. I have no doubts about how to uninstall the LightScribe application. But I am not clear about whether or not my DVD burner is a LightScribe compatible drive. The LightScribe software was included from the factory. However, the LightScribe application cannot find a LightScribe drive. Also, Nero InfoTool 4 does not identify this drive as capable of LightScribe.
Is there any way, short of purchasing and attempting to label a LightScribe disc, to know for sure whether or not this drive is LightScribe compatible?
Did any other ASUS owners find LightScribe software installed on their notebook with a non-LightScribe drive?

Laptop doesn't have Lightscribe it's a farce.
I don't know why, but I asked this same quesiton a couple months ago. I think the Lightscribe is just part of their OEM crap they install on all computers.
Sadly I even went as far as buying Lightscribe DVD's I was all excited to try it out. -
ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
What I'm sure you're running into, if you installed updated utility files from Asus, is that one of the utilities you installed was for the alternate F3 model (F3Sv series) that does have LS drive installed. Alternatively, if this was present at delivery as you say, then Asus loaded their newest updated F3 utilities into your system during the HD burn @ manufacture. Asus does a lot of this, cross-model drivers & utilities, or new feature utilities for newer refresh models that are back-compatible with earlier versions because the hardware is essentially the same.
You all don't have a LS drive in the Sa-A1 model, just an updated utility for the F3 series -
if u look at the dvd front cover, there should be a lazer logo -
Thanks for the feedback. I knew that newer models have different versions of drivers and ASUS applications loaded on the HD at the factory even though the hardware between models is largely the same. I knew that there should be a logo on the DVD burner tray door. I knew that this drive is called simply "SuperMulti" in the literature. I guess I was just hoping that the inclusion of software made this notebook LightScribe capable.
Thanks again.

do i need a driver for LightScribe to be use?

You need the LightScribe System Software, which is similar to a driver and is usually included with your LightScribe hardware. The latest update is available here
