Specifically for the
Asus G1S-A1
Asus F3Sv-B1
Asus V1S-B1
Asus V2S-A1
I know that the speakers are pretty bad, but if I plugged in a pair of earbuds (I have the Shure E4C's, which are around $300 and sound amazing).
Is there any hiss or high pitched noises or distortion through headphones or external speakers?
I am asking just because my old Compaq has decent speakers, but if I plug in my headphones to the audio jack there is a high pitched faint background noise.

My G1S is fine from what I have experianced thus far. No whine or anything while listening to things via my sennheisers.

For the F3sv B1...you need not worry. the line out quality is definitely above par for notebooks.
You have to keep in mind that the hiss occurs due to interference. Its impossible to have zero interference in any laptop due to the fact that all the components are so close together and shielding every single one is impractical. Don't worry though...its better than 90% of other laptops. -
After my horrendous experience with 1520, I went to a computer store with my AKG K26P portable headphone and tried out headphone jack of several laptops displayed there. I tried Sony FZ, ASUS U, Toshiba A205, and Macbook pro. There are significant variation in sound quality/static noise with these.
The quality I discovered is this order
FZ>>A205>ASUS U>>>Macbook Pro>>>>>>>>>>>>>>1520
The quality of FZ was surprisingly good for a laptop. A205/ASUS U is what I consider normal for laptops - slight background noises. Since ASUS U is much smaller than laptops you mentioned, I think at least V series would have better audio output than ASUS U. MBP was very disappointing, considering its price, and it appears several people are reporting this problem on recent MBP/MacBook. Less we talk about 1520, the better.
I hope this helps. -
I don't know about the current models, but the line-out sound quality on my Asus Z71V is fantastic, both analog and digital.
