    Linux on Asus K53TA-BBR6?

    I'm having an issue with installing Linux on this machine, when i boot up a Linux live-cd i get past the initial boot screen than the screen turns of, yet i can still hear the boot sound in Ubuntu 11.10.

    I have tried to install both Ubuntu 11.10 and Linux Mint 12 from a live-cd and no luck on either, same issue on both, the screen turns off after initial boot screen.

    So I'm wondering has anyone successfully installed Linux on this laptop? And how did you do it?

    When i boot up from a Backtrack 5 R1 DVD it boots up fine.

    I'm interested to know if anyone has found a solution for making it work out of the box with the open source drivers.

    Maybe you can hit CTRL+ALT+F1 when you hear that startup sound, and then install the proprietary AMD catalyst drivers by hand. Here's one post I found through a google search:
