Im interested in buying an Asus laptop, mainly because of its record of reliability and what appears to be excellent customer support. Theres one thing holding me back: the lack of a real docking station connector. I understand that USB 3.0 docking stations offer very good performance, but they require drivers, and drivers generally require Microsoft Windows. Theres a very good chance that at some point Ill have to run Linux on whatever I buy, and I dont know how big a problem that would be.
Im seeking advice from people who have used Linux on an Asus laptop with a USB docking station, or have tried to. Did it work? If so, how much pain was involved? If not, are there workarounds, such as running Linux in a VM under a host Windows system?
Linux with a USB docking station?
