Hi, I ordered my Asus v-x1 and it came with a bunch of asus programs. Does anyone have a list of programs that can be deleted so i don't accidently delete something important? Thanks.

You can safely remove Asus LiveUpdate. The rest, well...
Of all the Asus Utilities and bundled applications, i only have one installed : Wireless Console 2. -
You actually are strongly advised to remove asus live update.
Personally I am using no ASUS utilities whatsoever. I keep the ProSet Wireless app in the background because otherwise I can't turn off the wireless via the hotbutton, but I am using the Windows utility to manage wireless connections. -
@E.B.E you can disable Intel's service from loading in the operating system, but still able to use the hotkey. It's been 6 months since i switched to Vista.... -
sorry for this OT-question, but what hotkey are you talking about?
-
does that mean i shouldn't download the stuff off of the f3 cd onto my computer either? Also, you mentioned something about proset.. is that for internet connections? I was having a problem by not being able to connect to any wireless connection, could that be something?>
-
Please help the novice newbie, why is removing Live update "strongly advised "? Why would ASUS put it out there if it has negative impact ? Thanks for any wisdom .

The wireless on/off hotkey. I found it's not working for me if the Proset Utility is not running (WinXP).
"does that mean i shouldn't download the stuff off of the f3 cd onto my computer either? "
Why would you want to use the F3 drivers and utilities for the VX?
"Also, you mentioned something about proset.. is that for internet connections? I was having a problem by not being able to connect to any wireless connection, could that be something?>"
Correct, wireless internet connections management. Alternative to the default Windows manager.
If having problems with the wireless connection and the Proset utility is off, try starting it and see if the problem dissapears.
Otherwise reinstall wireless driver and utility. -

ASUS live update is coded by Computer Science dropouts. As such, it will eat up all the memory of the computer, gradually. Also, it almost never does anything -- except signaling a BIOS update sometimes, and BIOS updates are not something that I want addressed by an automatic update process.
Many ASUS utilities are buggy and poorly coded, but the Live Update is the cherry on top of the cake.
Remove it. -
Also recently introduced to me was Asus Data Security Manager.
Get rid of that. For whatever reason on my (and others according to a thread a couple pages back) G1S developed serious stuttering issues (especially during music playback) with this installed. Uninstalling it was an instant fix to the problem.
I also got really annoyed at Asus Multiframe, after it giving me continual errors every time I used an app that swapped color to 16bit mode (some random older 2d applications do this on occasion).
