Is there an new one for A7D
-
A7D is the ATI X700 video card, I don't think it needs new BIOS to fix the graininess issue since I don't hear there is graniness issue on this video card.
-
Thx GenTechPC
-
No problem.
-
I think the 210AS bios for the W3J off the asus support website fixes the graininess problem.
-
Thx for the helpful post, Ken. I'm sure this will be very helpful for the people who haven't found fixes yet...
-
afaik, the F3Ja has had a bios update since then. the newest version on the Asus FTP is 207AS
ftp://ftp.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/F3Ja/F3Ja207AS.ZIP
haven't tried it yet tho
edit: a poster on the Dutch Gathering of Tweakers forum tried this bios and claims that it doesn't include the grain-free video bios.

This is really useful, maybe we should sticky this thread. I've gotten a few PM's on it in the last week in fact, and it'd be nice to be able to reply with one link instead of three or four.
Come to think of it, Ken can you include the instructions for burning to boot disk too? -
Appreciate this, it is very useful.
Would it be possible GenTechPC, to add also the instructions to update the Bios (may be detailed), please?
That would be excellent, worthy of a sticky.
Thanks. -
any problem with the w3j and 210A?? i like to be current.
-
Excellent, thanks,
I still suggest to do this sticky. -
will the W2JB bios work on the W2JC ?
-
-
Any updates for the A8Jp? Thanks. Very nice and helpful info.
-
Thanks for this post Ken.
My apologies in advance for what may be a dumb question.
Who compiled these BIOS revisions?
I currently have ver. 205 and I don't really see any graininess.
The new Asus revision is 300 while your posted W2JB version is 204?
Just wondering where these came from and what the numbering logic is.
Thanks.
I'd also be interested in hearing from anyone who tries these Gentech offers. -
You can read the whole story here: http://www.notebookforums.com/thread173555.html -
I insist, lets stick this.
-
Any news on the bios for A7J yet??
-
Update: A7J graininess-free BIOS uploaded. -
I have the F3Ja and had the graininess issue. I have flashed to the bios version linked and the problem has now gone
Also the default clocks of the X1600 have gone from 445/346 to a slighter higher 445/391. This takes my stock default score running 3dmark05 from 3,749 to 3,936. -
Keep up the good work Ken!
-
I was wondering why this is not a sticky yet, and other equal or less important subjects actually are.
Is it may be because this gives a bad image to Asus laptops? and then a newbi could be thinking on buying one but then retract when see this sticky in the Asus forum?
Politics... -
I don't know if it is related but when using 206 bios, battery was charging even it was 100% already. Both 205 and 207as versions that I used did not charge battery. My notebook was using AC power the whole time. -
How do I check what bios version I have? For my laptop (A8JP) there is a bios version 208 on the Asus website....but I'm not sure if I need it or not.
-
Hold F2 when turn on the computer, at the BIOS go to System Information.
-
Thread stickied, whereas the W3J thread was unstuck due to overlapping topics.
-
My brand new Asus F3Jp-AS017M (WXGA+) also has the grainyness-issue and before installing a beta bios (is the version provided here even compatible with my variant of the F3Jp ?) I'd like to know if there's any information available when Asus will provide an official version of the bios adressing the issue.
Bios version 2.04 has already released but unfortunately unlike 2.03 beta it does not seem to fix the problem. -
-
I have the s96j and I don't notice the grainyness issue. Will flashing the bios really make a difference for me? or should i just leave it alone ( don't fix what's not broken?). I'm afraid i may screw up the flash somehow.
-
You can check your BIOS version by holding F2 and the Intel logo screen when turn on the computer,go to System Information in the BIOS it tells you what version you have. -
I think I'll give the beta a try due to the lack of a release date for a final version addressing the issue. Thanks, keep up the good work -
A guy from Asus support just sent me Version 2.05 for F3Jp , unfortunately he didn't mention if it solves the problem or not
-
-
-
-
I am thinking maybe his RAM has problem or some drivers not compatible with the beta BIOS?
I think you should try it, works fine on the unit I was testing. -
-
Got My F3JP today from newegg...yup just as i thought..grainy crap..i went ahead and got the 203 bios, and flashed it....cleared everything up.
-
does anybody know if there's a fix for grainy crap in the A8Js?
-
-
Yes, i do see some grainy stuff on the screen. it's especially noticeable in white background. I dont think it's a video card problem but the screen. i just do not have any option but to try my luck here. contacted asus but gotten no reply. I'm really disappointed with asus. it's a very expensive lesson.
-
can you post a picture (not screen shot) of what it looks like?
-
sure, when i get home afterwards.
-
I have question, if i want to reflash my bios version 204 too beta bios 203, can i simply use winflash for it, or do i have to use something else for it?
Hope that somebody can help me with it. -
I had previously used the beta bios to remove the grain on my W2JB but I just had the laptop sent in (wouldn't turn on during battery power) and the laptop came back with the grain problem (it has a new motherboard).
With the new motherboard (which has the grain issue) if I flash my motherboard with the beta bios, my system won't boot (it posts but then reboots before booting either from cd or hard drive)
Is their any other bios I can try (for the W2JB) that can remove the grain (or does anyone have the original bios that didn't have the issues)
Thanks -
What BIOS version is it on the new MB?
-
BIOS revision 300 (which I believe is the latest version on ASUS website) dated 07/27/06
-
-
Yeah its strange (cause the old motherboard took the beta drivers fine). It appears to POST fine too, its just when it tries load from either a CD or Disk that it reboots.
And yeah I went into the bios and reset everything to the defaults... didn't help
Thats why I was wondering if someone had the original BIOS somewhere (I don't care too much about Merom support)
I've tried this a couple times and it always fails... I'm just glad that I had a working BIOS backed up.
Edit: I've tried 4 different BIOS with this machine and 207 and 300 both work but with grain, and 206 and 205 both reboot before the machine boots.
