    Hi,

I keep hearing about Asus surprassed most Laptop companies in term of built quality. What is the longest Asus running laptop you ever heard or have w/o service maintenance? 2 years? 3 years?

    m5n's, m3n's, z63a's, z33's
All have integrated graphics and are discontinued models but all are very successfull. Most likely because punk lill gamers who abuse their laptops dont buy them. No offense to any punk lill gamers here But you account for about 99% of all our rma and i am starting to believe there is a connection :)

Why doesn't Asus offer 2GPU's in one like the Sony SZ for example. You get better battery life for sure. And that would please the "lil punk gamers" and those who couldn't care less about a GPU.

my m5n has now been running fro 2 years almost. It wasnt a marathon but i do use it every single day. I dont take good care of it. It has been dropped, banged, shocked, swpilled on, sneezed on, pawed by a pitbull, and overheated in the bag but it does still work perfectly with the exception of too much junkware so its slowing down.

I can and will beat all of you...... I've got an M1a which is the original Asus notebook we imported from Taiwan...... It effectively coincides with the actual renaming of this company as PROPortable and it was June of 2001..... 5 years ago last week. It's still cooking. I would put money on the fact that no one else in North America has an older Asus as there were no companies who imported these notebooks at the time and Asus Fremont office didn't even have a mobile product manager, let alone division. Asus themselves may have had a notebook or two in the states, but nothing retail.... I'd put all the money I have on the fact that it's certainly the longest running.... A few things have been "upgraded", but they didn't need to be.... it's just that we had the resources to do so....... larger hard drive (i think original was like 4gb or something) and replaced the palmrest and lid (after so many years it shows the wear and Asus had the last couple parts lying around so I picked them up)..... oh and battery...... batteries from that long ago simply lose life and they did so more back then than they will do so today... but put a new battery in it for sure.

Asus started making notebooks in Tiawan under their own brand in the end of 2000...... The first two notebooks were the L1a and M1a. Nice and easy models to decode...

L1a - Humm... First version, of the first model, of the first "L"aptop series....
M1a - ... again, first version, of the first model, of the first "M"odular bay laptop series (this is where the whole 2nd hard drive and 2nd battery and travelers drawer came from).

..... Great question and I hope you enjoyed reading about this..... because it's really a story of how PROPortable started and became all Asus, all the time.... plus it's fun to tell the history of us and Asus for that matter.

While asus has great build quality and can last even under reasonable abuse, with good care most notebooks can last a VERY long time. I have an old dell inspiron I got 6 years ago rocking a 300 mhz p2 processor, about 64 mbs of system ram, and a read only really slow optical drive and it still runs perfectly fine, abliet the horrid specs it has in comparison to current laptops that is :). And thats a DELL, if you kept good care of your Asus imagine how much more it would last.

Wow it's really amazing that laptop last this long. I'm under the impression that laptop survived 3 years. I just received my Asus w3v and hopefully it will served till I finish with professional school (4 years). I guess I should invest in an air can.

Don't get me wrong.... I've seen people beat the hell out of their Asus and kill it within a year........ and certainly not all of our notebooks have or will last that long.... That just happens to be the first Asus notebook this side of Tiawan and it's still kicking....... it's almost like a life force for us.

Even though we don't own this one anymore, I know it's running... My brother had an M2a which he got just about four years ago in the spring.... now he old had it for two years before he sold it to a friend from college and then picked up a W1n for himself....... but this friend was just visiting him last week and the M2a is still kicking and he hopes to get another two years out of it..... realistically I don't know how that'll happen, but his needs aren't that great and as long as his sticks with xp pro - he might actually do it...... for a 4 year old system, it's still in great condition.
