I also have a g73 and the same thought for school and work, you look like a f'n dork wobbling around with this huge box, not to mention sizable backpack or case. I bought a HP netbook recently, refurbished from microcenter.. Get back to you on the model # as I leave it at work. It has a 12" screen, dual core, 4 gig ram, hdmi out... and is capable of at least 720p, however I didn't try full 1080p on hdmi yet.. It's really about what you want.. I was looking at stuff like the t91 that had touchscreen, but it was slow as balls when I took it home -- made me realize I'm only willing to sacrifice so much performance. However it also depends on you pocket, if you wanna spend 1500 on a netbook there are some sick alienwares and what not out there. $400 for me was like the highest I could go on a netbook otherwise you're really getting a mobility laptop. The only regret I have is netbooks should have SSD. Get back to you on the model # if you're interested.

I'm in the same shoes as both of you. I had a G51J last semister which was a little more compact to travel with, but it was still a little too big and heavy. I haven't traveled a lot with my G73H, but at any rate I rather keep it in prestige condition and only take it out on days that I need to do intensive work (3D rendering and drafting). I had my hopes high for the ASUS EEE PC 1218, but ASUS wont be releasing it for a long while (December?). The only other netbook worth getting is the upcoming ASUS EEE PC 1215.

Same here, my current laptop which I use as a dekstop replacement system is still good enough for my current needs but I need a netbook for taking notes in class. I was waiting for the 1218 but I have no idea when it will be released, and since the 1215 will be released around august/september I think I don't think asus wil release the 1218 soon to give the 1215 a decent chance in the market.

I'll probably get the 1215 myself when I start taking class again in oktober, but if I hear by then that the 1218 will be released in december like cheeseboy says, i'll probably convince myself to write with pen and paper for a few more months.

These 2 notebooks are actualy the only two ones of which I know that they have nvidia ION, and 12 inch is definitly a good size (not too big to carry around, and I hope it won't be too small to type on for many hours at the library).

My wife has an Asus EEE 1005HA (because her M15x is fairly heavy). It's perfect for taking notes and doing quick research, and we also use it at home to stream Netflix to our TV.

I have Samsung NC10 and its the best DAMN thing ever.. when it came out about year or so ago, it was also rated the best notebook in performance wise, excluding that Asus which was double the price thou..

Samsung Series of the NC's or N's is top of the class, personally.

It has WD drive (i think scorpio blue or so), battery life on my NC10, after 1.5 year of use at University, is still staggering 7+++ hours with WiFi off and in battery saving mode, while playing movies gives me up to 5 hours of entertainment!

Keyboard is 93% of the real deal, not that shabby too!

The price is a deal-hit as well.. so from personal experience - I recommend it!

Games the NC10 can handle: WoW grinding only, Eve online mining only, Sims 2, Quake 3, Starcraft BW etc.. the new ones surely manage more games!

Check out the Nokia Booklet 3g[overprised right now] and Asus eee pc 1005pr[HD capable but no HDMI] bouth are supposed to have great battery life.
The Acer Ferrari One is also a good one[packs great performance for its size].
All of these have a HD screen.

The 1005pe is the battery champ thought.

I did the something you all did I got my laptop for home and then picked up a netbook at first. I like the netbook but wanted hdmi out when on the go and a bit more power so I got a ul30vt. If you can still find them you may be able to get a good price. I got mine for $650 and could not pass that price up.

Walmart has Acer as1410t (su2300 4500hd 2gb) for $350 here in canada. Get an extended batter from ebay for $40, and you've got a 6 hour netbook with HD screen and 2-3x faster than an atom ...

I think they're calling them the Aspire 752.
