    Hi!

I'm currently considering in buying this laptop but I can't seem to find muc information about him.
Here in Portugal it isn't for sale yet (I expect them to hit the stores this or next week) so I can't go to a store to see a display of the model.

Has anyone actually bought the computer and has any good pictures of it? Actually I see a lot od recomendations of it in this board.. but not may actually stating to have it.

On Internet I can only find the ones on newegg website and on asus website.

Hi, welcome to the forum! :D

If I'm up on the Asus naming conventions, then the A8F is the same chassis as the A8J(m/a) and it has integrated graphics instead of a dedicated GPU.

There are lots of pictures on the board and on the net of the Asus A8j, you'll find most folks around here have that model, as it allows them to play the fancy newfangled games!

The build quality should be pretty solid, good luck with your purchase!

:D thanks for such a fast response.

I'm now reviewing A8J around the board and finding some neat stuff.

I actually chose the A8F because I don't need the dedicated GPU. My desktop has a nice video card and i never played for more than the first 2 weeks. Games are not for me so I get to save some $$ and hopefully some battery time.

Excellent, sounds like the A8F would be a decent choice for you. I'm not sure about the availability in Portugal, but Asus also offers the z62f as a customizable 14" with integrated graphics.

Foregoing the dedicated GPU will definitely save you some battery life as well. :)

Hahaha! I like that, "Instant Fun". :p

My question is this: Since a spinning optical drive is a pretty big battery drain, does using the Instant "Fun" feature with a DVD disc consume more battery life than if you boot to OS and play a movie off the HDD? I wonder if any forum members here have tried this.

Well every post I am more convinced about the A8F. The only thing I must pay more attention is the portuguese keyboard layout. It usually has a larger Enter key that I love but I've seen some models/manufacturers that use other layouts that I despise! :D Other than that the only thing that bothers me is the HDD speed: only 4200rpm. I guess that in a couple of years I'll buy a larger 7200rpm.

I've been checking and no Z62 here in portugal. At least not yet! I guess that some models can only be bought thru special ordering: not enough demand to stock them.

You should wait till a friend or relative goes travelling to Taiwan / US and ask them to buy it for you :)

My sister is currently living in the US. But i do prefer to buy the computer here in portugal. Not only i don't have the trouble to change the keyboard but I also have 2 year warranty instead of only one.
