Hi,
I'm looking to get a new Asus fan for my W2 laptop.
Reference is UDFQ2ZR02FAS.
Asus Europe refuse to sell this part (as other ones) to customer.![]()
Thanks in advance.

That's because Asus has a patent on their fans rpm. Looks like you will have to find one that fits & works but does not violate the rpm thing.
Have you tried these guys ? Not that I have. Point being I did a search & came up with hits.

I don't see that part # on the eStore. www.zercom.nl have some ASUS parts, you could try that. Other than that, I don't know...
BTW, ASUS Holland did agree to send me some parts for an Out of Warranty repair (done by myself). Where are you located? -

post the pic of the fan and the part number. I got a large box of fans and parts that we never really used.
-
Dear All,
tanks for support,
unfortunatly, there is no part available in the indicated shops.
Find here attached a picture of the fan with cooler on CPU.
thanks.

Nice pic. It looks like it would be hard to get in/out & you'd need the encasement to.
Maybe you will get lucky re the poster who has spare parts. -
Thanks for reply red616...
No, I don't need the encasement, and the fan can be removed from the keybord side, with only 3 screews, but it's a lot of works to take picture of the front side...
If somebody can provide this part: you are welcome!
But after a lot of investigation on internet, it seems to be very hard. All idea are goods.
I bought this laptop 2300 uros in 11/2005, and is now out of warranty, of course!
thanks in advance.

eStore doesn't have the exact part (I presume you have a W2V since it is a Pentium M 760 from the picture), but maybe you could use one from a W2JB and try to remove the fan from it (ensure it is 5V and check the wire colors and terminals)? Are you sure it isn't spot-welded to the assembly?
In any case, seeing how it's only 12$, there's not really that much to lose.

Thanks AlexF for reply and your help,
this part number (13GNCQ10M260) is the encasement of the fan, but not coming with the fan...
I'm supposing that the fan is out of stock in the a lot of shop, as it has a lot of problems (noise, blocking,...) !
So, I'm waiting for more help... we never know!
Thanks to all;

I would think the encasement part would be the hard one to replace if one had to. Since that's not the case , no pun intended , maybe you can get a fan that looks close to yours to work ? It sounds like you are at the point where you have to get a fan in there as the notebook's useless without one. The fan in the pic looks alot like fans in video cards. Maybe you can go at it from that side. I can't believe with all the different size & shapes of fans available one can't be found that will work. Then again , since it will do such an important job , I guess you need to be careful.
I forgot to ask...what exactly is wrong with the fan you are trying to replace ? -
The fan is making a lot of noise, and not working fine... the speed of the fan is very slow, and not giving air enough.
So, after a short time (+/- 1 hour) the laptop shutdown, because of over heating.
Thanks for your support.
-
Well I sure hope you get it sorted. That's a nice notebook to have not working.
-
You can try Notebook Hardware Control for fan regulation and also for undervolting, see if you get some changes in terms of heat and noise.

the fan it self i have the casement and piping i do not. the fan should be modular although i am not familiar with your model
-
I suggest to the OP that he buys the fan only. It should be discrete (removable from the heatsink / casing). I don't know that particular type of laptop but I don't see why it should be non-removable.
If the fan is making weird noises, I have doubts whether NHC or another method for software control would work. -
Thanks again for reply.
Yes, the fan is removable without the encasement from the front of the case.
The encasement is harder to remove.
See pictures here attached
So, I need only the fan, and this model (with this reference:UDQF2ZR02FAS) seems to be very rare in the market place.
All ideas are welcome.
Thanks.Attached Files:

I've never heard of a certain fan being so hard to find. But then I guess that's why they call them notebooks.
Good Luck ! -
Edit after looking at the pictures, I think the fan comes with the plastic casing (the one that is separated in the 2nd picture). Only the metal casing (which directs the airflow) will need to be reused. The fan cable plugs into the motherboard somewhere on the other side, I presume.
You might consider getting 2 of them, I'm sure shipping will be quite expensive w.r.t. the fan's price itself, especially if you're not in US. -
does anyone have instructions on how to disassemble the w2 laptop. i need to replace the fan as well and i;ve been asking asus for months for a manual on how to but they wont give me it.
-
Hi,
I've just got my fan today, and already installed it. My laptop feel better now!
To get access to it, you have to remove all screws on the back, including 5 small ones behind the battery (don't forget to start by removing the battery and power supply). There are some screws that are hidden behind small panels (like the one of the HD, CPU, ...)
After that, you have to place back your pc, open the screen, and remove the key board (unplug the small flat connector). You will see more screws to remove behind the keyboard. Remove the front board, taking care on the cable of the screen switch, and buttons.
Now, you have access to the fan!
You can have a look on my personal pictures at:

• http://www.tpicard.fr/DreamBox/Asus/ASUS_FAN_FRONT4.JPG
I've got the part from BTOtech.com . Just one remark: he sent me a different model, with only shorter cable; I had to sold a longer one.
But he has no more in stock.
Good luck!

Sorry to dig out this thread,I'm new here
Where's the GPU located in W2?I have one (W2v) and it's having overheating problems in ati X700...85º C in idle, goes up to 119º C (playing Supreme Commander for instance) before shutdown...
Thanks in advance -
ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
Given the age of the W2v, you should start by cleaning out the fan and radiator - I'll bet they're full of goo, but I can't remember whether the W2 had one or two fans that you'll have to work on. Try removing the various bottom panels and you should find it.
-
Definitely try cleaning as ClearSkies suggests. If you can't reach the fans from the bottom panels, try removing the keyboard (check the disassembly guides in the Info Booth, the procedure is pretty standard for all ASUS notebooks), and see if you can't reach it from under there.
If all this fails, and you don't find a disassembly manual to help you get to the fans, either, then clean them with compressed air. It's a good idea to jam the fans with a toothpick during this procedure. -
W2v only has one fan,the images posted in this topic by the other user show it.But strange as it is it (seems) to only cover the CPU.
I've done that cleaning already (didn't change the thermal patch),my CPU temp in full load is about 70º C...is that normal or should I be worried?
That's why I want to know where the GPU is located,to try and clean it or change the termal paste or something...
I'll try and find the disassembly guides to see if they say where it might be...(noobie in laptop workarounds LOL)
Thanks guys for the replies, your help and insight is appreciated -
ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
P-M temps at 70 when under full load is completely normal.
Since the W2v has discrete graphics, the heatsink should have two plates along it's length on the way to the radiator - one for gpu and one for cpu. I don't think it's possible to have one plate cover both, unless it is quite long or large. Perhaps take another look? -
70 deg for CPU in full blast is normal, but 85º C in idle, 119º C in full blast for GPU is definitely NOT normal.
I think if the fan is clean the next thing that should be tried is indeed a thermal paste change. Also check the heatsink for cracks when you take it apart.
Unfortunately I do not know of a disassembly manual for the W2. Try searching for it on the Internet. -
I found some steps, but not all...will try it anyway,as soon as I have the right tools (correct screwdrivers, another can of compressed air and AS5 or AS Ceramique).
Still, the images from the previous poster don´t show any chip with the ATI logo on it near the heatsink and fan
But then again he didn't leave step by step instructions...will know more once I open it up...I think

Front image(disassembled front):
-
Well, I don't think you will see ATI logos, it'll probably just be a nondescript chip at that resolution.
Good luck with the disassembly. -
Hi xaikes,
change the thermal past is mandatory for this CPU, as we already burned it with heat!
I did it, and saved around 20°C... see my pictures on these links:
• http://www.tpicard.fr/DreamBox/Asus/ASUS_FAN_FRONT2.JPG
• http://www.tpicard.fr/DreamBox/Asus/ASUS_FAN_FRONT3.JPG
• http://www.tpicard.fr/DreamBox/Asus/ASUS_FAN_FRONT4.JPG
But anyway, the first step remain to clean the radiator and fan... take your time to remove covers, and be organize... good luck! -
The links to the pictures aren´t working...
Thanks for the help,I already did that and the CPU temp is okay (I once had it near 100ºC).
The GPU is giving me some trouble as it is located (finally found out where it is) near the CPU (behind the sticker with Model Nº) but from removing the panels it's impossible to reach. Will have to disassemble the whole thing and access the rear of the mobo.
Maybe I can afterwards make a little disassembly guide for the W2 (hope so) as it is impossible to find the disassembly guide online. -
Sorry xaixes, try again, as I had a server location problem, but solved now...picture are back online.
Good luck, and be patient... -
They're fine now,thanks!
To anyone reading this, for better location on the GPU,using your 3rd photo (front),it's above the RAM,on the other side of the mobo (rear). If someone still has doubts I recommend going to Asus Estore->notebook parts->W2v->mobo part(that's how I found out LOL).
Anyhow,I'll update this thread as necessary.
Thanks all for the help and support. -
totopic:
how were you able to remove the 2 screws behind the heatsink?mine just won't budge...did you use any special tool?
without removing these two screws I can't disassemble the laptop completly.
