    Hi folks,
I'm about to be back on the prowl for another laptop. My budget this time around is around 1200$. Looking for the best dedicated card, screen res and processor for the money. Also, I'm afraid I must limit screen size to 15.6 max...this being the case, what could you folks suggest? I am willing to wait a month or so if there's something new and exciting on the horizon that's worth waiting for (I know CES is in progress as I type this). I've been out of the loop for some months now, so any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks for your time.

That's definitely the type of comp I'm looking for EIement, I appreciate your prompt feedback. I have to admit though, I was hoping DDR3... seeing as how were tiptoeing into 2010..lol. Honestly, DDR2 would probably suffice for my purposes..but is there anything that I might be missing on the horizon w/ DDR3 (and maybe blue-ray) though that BR may be a stretch... Aside from that, the G51 looks to be a great machine for the $.

DDR2 won't change a single thing. at all. DDR3 has ZERO REAL WORLD BENEFITS. I've said this way way way way too many times. google it and you too, will see the light... you might notice...1? 2? maybe 3 minutes of increased battery life.

Interesting - as I said, I've been out of the loop for almost a year now, so I assumed (as most probably do) that DDR3 produced some noticeable level of performance benefits over DDR2. Again, I appreciate your response, as it will certainly play into my decision when I bite the bullet and make the purchase. Any other feedback will of-course be appreciated.

yeah that x3a is an awesome deal with the recent price reduction. that destroys the bestbuy g60 at that price.

I'd expect a refresh of the X3a to coincide with the G51Jx launch coming up here. I've been following it on Newegg for a few weeks now because I'm looking for a similar laptop and within the same price range as you, and they look to be clearing out stock of the X3a in preparation for a new model. First the price was $1200 with free shipping, then $1100 without free shipping, then $1100 with free shipping. Now there's even a limit of 5 per customer, which wasn't there a week ago.

You'll just have to decide for yourself if its going to be worth it to wait. The new model will have a better processor. However, the GPU that will replace the GTX 260m, the GTS 360m, won't be as powerful but will run cooler and perhaps provide for a longer life of the notebook.
