This started last week. Every time I turn on my laptop, boost microphone gain is switched on at the Windows loading splashscreen, and doesn't turn off until I log on. I have to sit through 10 seconds of loud screeching just to turn on my laptop, either that, or I have disable my microphone before I shut down, or plug in headphones.

What could be the problem? I'm using the latest 211 A8J BIOS.

yan.. had the same problem after I installed 211 ....

I just had to uncheck the microphone boost at Volume Control and it seemed to solve the problem (then again, I have volume control muted at all times until I need it)....

Turning off the microphone gain doesn't do anything for me. It turns it self on and off automatically during startup.

Muting the mic is not a viable solution either. I play games and have voice chats. What if I forget to turn it off? What if it happens during a lecture?! NOOOO!!!!

Should I just revert to the 210s?

Update: I just reverted to the 210s and the problem is still here...

Hmm... interesting.. it doesn't happen to me anymore?

Are you sure you unchecked the Microphone Boost under Microphone - Advanced?

Yes, I unchecked it. Maybe I have it enabled in the guest account? I'll go check now...

Update: Nope, I don't have it checked in the guest account either.

I have to hijack my own thread here: my wireless keyboard causes a weird interference popping sound in my headphones and speakers whenever I press a key. What's up with that, and can I fix it?
