hey all...got a dilemma concerning my battery

i've got an Asus M2400N (Pentium M 1.7Ghz, 512Ram) whose battery just refuses to charge. the computer and battery aren't that old and i haven't used it that much at all. the battery was working just fine (usually averages around 4 hours with normal operation w/o dvd drive usage) but quite suddenly it refuses to charge. whenever i do use it, it is usually plugged in with the battery in as well. also, the ac adaptor i use is the Igo Juice adaptor, not the one that's supposed to come with it.

i've tried discharging the battery and charging again, but it doesn't get past 1%-2% charged. i've also tried using the bios utility that resets the battery's own gauge and that didn't help either. the strangest thing is that this didn't happen gradually but literally overnight.

any suggestions or similar experiences with this particular model or with notebook batteries in general? i am a novice when it comes to notebooks and am at my wit's end.

    thanks in advance.

There's a few possibilities on what can cause this problem:

    1. The AC adapter you're using is not the original one and could have caused a problem with the battery

    2. Having the battery always in the unit while on AC could have damaged the battery

    3. The battery just failed (possibly defective)

    4. The charging unit in the notebook is defective

If the unit is still within the warranty period (usually 1 year), you may be able to get a replacement battery from Asus (usually covered for 1 year from date of purchase), just don't tell them you use the Igo juice adapter. If you can't get a replacement from Asus (out of warranty), then you'd have to buy a new battery. You may also want to try running with the correct AC Adapter and not the Igo Juice as this may be the cause. If it's the the unit, you'd have to send it in for serivce.

    thanks for the reply

but now i have another problem. i tried to go through the bios to reset the battery gauge and now the damn thing won't charge OR use the AC adapter to power itself. now it just won't turn on whatsoever.

    will have to call support.
