    Hi,

This is all those who are planning on installing a new m3np.

I purchased a m3np barebone and purchased components and assembled it myself. Here is what i have got to say from my experience...

    * purchase the Asus m3np with the cd drive. The slot does not accept any other OEM drive.
They have something called the spacer which runs around the standard drive. This spacer is not avaliable outside separately. So, you are forced to buy a m3np combo drive too.
So, make sure you buy the m3np combo drive(black or silver as your model demands) along with your barebone. (Put off the plans to perchase your own favourite OEM drive!!)
Too bad that Asus did not leave this to be openly configured!!.

    * I do not think DDR memory with 400 mhz bus speed works with the model. So, opt for a DDR 333Mhz or 266Mhz. The system has two SODIMM 200 Pin slots. one under the keyboard and one near the processor (accesible from the underside)

    * For the installation manuals and video, read my "m3np installation" thread in this forum

    * All those planning on purchasing an m3np, read my "m3np shopping" thread.

    Hi,

I presume that the Asus DVD-ROM and the Asus DVD-RW drive will also work off the shelf, not just the Combo.

I have recently assembled an M3Np with a 1.7 gHz Dothan, 512 MB of Corsair DDR333, and Intel 2200 11g wireless. Everything works but the optical drive, an Asus DVD-RW which fits fine, spins up, opens and closes, but is not recognized by Windows XP or BIOS (as far as I can see using F2, but not as much boot up info seems available as in desktops and other laptops I've used).

Any hints, or must I get an RMA and send the barebones back to the merchant? I am confidant that the problem is not the DVD-RW, as I am on the second one with the same symptoms!

Perhaps try updating the BIOS in windows? If that doesn't work, then I think you should return it

ASUS M6800Ne, P-M 1.5 Dothan, 512MB Ram, ASUS Combo drive, Samsung Spinpoint M 40G HDD with 8M cache, Mobility Radeon 9700

This is exactly what happens with my M3np --- actially a Portable One MX --- in which a DVD-RW drive the Mat****a UJ-830s has been installed. I wonder if there have any further clarifications or solutions to these probroblems since the last posts.
