I currently own an Asus z71v that's a few years old and starting to have some issues (Overheats a lot even though I've cleaned it out, 0 battery life, when I stick anything in the DVD drive slot the computer won't boot, etc). So I am planning on purchasing an M50Sv-A1 as it seems to be rather nice and matches my price range. However, the screen on it seems to be below average. Does anyone know if it is possible to take the 1050x1680 screen from my z71V and put it into an M50Sv-A1? Any help would be appreciated.

Not sure if the Z71V screen will work on the M50Sv-A1 but I've got confirmation from Asus that the G1 series screen (CMO 1680x1050) will work.

While it's not a bad price, I still want to try to keep my price down as much as possible. How good is the quality of the G1 screen compared to the M50sV-A1? I've only heard the M50sV has a bad screen, I've never actually seen it.

The G1 screens won't have any issues whatsoever. It's been highly acclaimed by many people here on nbr. (The screen on the G1 is also the same on the C90s... all made by CMO). Obviously, the main difference will be resolution. G1 has 1680x1050 while the M50Sv-A1 has 1440x900. G1 has absolutely no grain issues and no light leakage, but it's not as bright as the M50Sv. I think you should try and see for yourself what the M50Sv screen looks like before you replace it.

Wow, such a nice laptop and such a horrible looking screen. But does your M51 have the same screen as the M50sV-A1?

Problem is I'd hate to pay for a laptop and then have to purchase a second screen for it just because the one that comes with it is so terrible.

I've used an M51Sn and no grain screen, but it also varies. You might stumble across one that suffers from this issue.

Another option for you is to get the M50Sa. It comes with a higher res screen (most likely the same screen as the G1).
