The only issue I have is...I play World of Warcraft on it only...not exactly a cutting edge game, and it seems that the computer should be doing way better than it is. But I have to play it on the LOWEST setting only. Anything else and the FPS drops like a rock. That cant be right. And often the screen has almost like a haze to it. Not crisp and vibrant like my desktop.
Also, it has the ATi Catalyst stuff, but I'm almost certain its an Nvida card.
Any suggestions? Or am I expecting too much?
Also, if I use an external monitor will that affect performance in anyway?

You're intuition is keen, in that the m50sv-a1 has NVidia dedicated graphics: Newegg.com - ASUS M50 Series M50Sv-A1 NoteBook Intel Core 2 Duo T9300(2.50GHz) 15.4" Wide XGA+ 3GB Memory 250GB HDD DVD Super Multi NVIDIA GeForce 9500M GS
And WoW requirements: https://us.battle.net/support/en/article/minimum-system-requirements-for-world-of-warcraft
While your system doesn't far exceed the requirements, it certainly SHOULD be capable of handling higher settings in game. Try removing the ATI Catalyst software and ensure that you have the latest [stable] driver for your NVidia.
And no, using an external monitor will not hinder game performance from a hardware standpoint; you are simply outputting the picture to a different source. If you're using a TV with a poor refresh rate, then you will probably notice it during gameplay, but it has no bearing/affect on your graphics card.
