If you didn't notice yet, it looks like touchpad media buttons surface is bulging up and if you press on it, it appears as if it's a thin sheet of plastic that's not glued to the actual touchpad. I hope this doesn't shift over time...

Bet that doesn't happen on the FW.
Sorry, couldn't resist! -
I'll let you know about mine when I get it.

well it appears "by design", it's like a protective layer for touchpad with media buttons, I am just curious why it wasn't glued

Isn't this a fault with your notebook? Other users should be able to tell you whether they have the same problem.

as far as I can tell no owners have responded yet...

I've noticed that the top film layer isn't attached, but it doesn't "buldge" nor does it shift positions. Although this is the first that I've seen in notebook touchpads, I don't think it's a fault; it's more likely the design and how it integrates with the illuminating lights underneath.

thanks for reply. Bulging up maybe an overstatement, what I mean is the surface is not necessarily flat and if you touch it you'll notice that it's like a thin layer above the touchpad.

I also have the ASUS M50Vm and I've also noticed that the film with the multimedia controls bulges at times. I've found that when the laptop has been on for a while, the bulge goes away (heat expansion?).
I'm wondering what fixes there might be for it. -
i am used to it and now I am using external Asus mouse when I play crysis

FIXED : I too have noticed this and did a few experiments, here is what I came up with. Note that the touchpad is not symetrical - it sits closer to one side then the other...well if you always store with the 'lighter' side up, it never bulges. If you store it with the 'heavier' side up , it will. I guess there is some slight bending - the whole laptop will flex some when sat vertically - and when stored in certain positions it will show on the touchpad.
M50VM touchpad...
