I don't know why, but the speakers on this laptop have stopped working. It still outputs audio to headphone and speakers that are plugged in, but not the laptop speakers.
Could this be because I had both speakers and headphones plugged into the two headphone jacks at the same time? Is there any way to get my laptop to start outputting the audio back to the laptop speakers.
Thanks in advance.

Yes I believe I have the same issue. Go into control panel, into realtek HD audio manager and then click on the device advanced settings in the top right corner of the window.
Select the 2nd option in the window that appears to separate the audio streams. -

I just had the same problem start today on my laptop. The internal speakers cannot be used because the second audio jack is saying that there are headphones/speakers still plugged in when there are not. I have tried restarting but that hasn't helped. Any suggestions?

I have now uninstalled and reinstalled the realtek audio drivers and have even updated them to the latest version on the asus website. The HD audio 2nd output is still finding something plugged into that port, even though there is not. I can still use both output ports, but it is extremely irritating not being able to use my internal speakers unless I split the audio outputs and set the speakers to default.

Before concluding that it's a faulty audio jack, I would suggest double checking with your Sounds and Audio Devices in your control panel that the laptop speakers are selected. Also check with your device manager to see if the audio device is working properly. Lastly, check to see if the speakers worth in safe mode.

Sounds and audio devices: check. Device manager: check. As far as the speakers working in safe mode goes, for some reason I couldn't get the windows audio service to enable so I couldn't get any audio working. However, the speakers did work when I uninstalled the realtek audio drivers. They also work when I separate the output jacks into different audio streams and set the speakers as the default. The problem that I am having is that a device is always being recognized in the second audio jack, so when I want to listen through the laptop speakers I have to manually separate the streams from the realtek audio manager and set the speakers as default. Up to now this has not been necessary as the detection of audio devices plugged into the jacks has always worked. From what I can figure out it must be a faulty audio jack (although the jack still works when I plug something into it, the detection of devices seems to be blown).
