I am going to do a little "spring cleaning" tonight -- wipe the OS, install a new one, and am curious as to whether I should go with vista-- or 7, since I have a 7 key here i've not used

Main worries are compatability, and performance, why i'm leaning towards vista, is I play alot of japanese games, and am not sure how they mesh with 7, but am sure of vista.

    So uh, any comments?

I'd personally wait until Windows 7 is officially out. Although M$ claims that all vista drivers would work in Win7, that's not entirely true, especially with some of the Asus utilities. I'd recommend sticking with Vista for now and wait until Asus have developed the proper drivers and software for the M50Vm.

I have the same notebook as You and I was used Vista x64 almost one year.
Few days ago I was thing that will try Win 7 x64 build 7000 from MS site.
Everything works OK. All drivers (newest from support.asus.com) are compatible with w7 and I dont have any problems. System works faster on my notebook than previous Vista! :) After 2 days my notebook on Vista used almost 2GB ram. As so far w7 never pass 1.3GB of mem.
    So I recomended w7 :)

.. and I mark - I dont use: fingerprnts, bluetooth, irda, modem - all are disabled in device manager. Only bluetooth have installed system (w7) drivers but is disabled as I mention.
