Does anyone know what I need to do to be able to play my blu-rays on my new laptop? I installed the WinDVD software that came with it and was only able to play 1/3 movies that I have. I even went and updated the WinDVD software and still only 1/3. I called Asus and they told me that when they contracted to get the BR drives from powerdvd they only contracted for 1 time initial support and nothing further but with blu-ray being new they encoding was constantly changing. Asus's advice was that I go buy software from powerdvd to be able to watch my movies. I think its BS that I just paid this much for the computer, now I have to go pay more money to be able to use what I paid for. So is that my only option to go pay $100 for the software?

You will need the Powerdvd 8. That was the only way I would get a blu ray disk to play in my friends laptop.

Is that really the only option? And which version of powerdvd do I need, Ultra, or one of the cheaper ones?

powerdvd 8 deluxe or ultra will be what you want to play blue ray movies. I wonder if you can upgrade the version that came with the laptop? The dell my friends has just came with the basic version which did not play any blu rays.

Mine didn't come with a lesser version that I could upgrade, it came with InterVideo WinDVD. And the coding on it is old, I even updated it for free, and still can only watch Ironman.
