    Hey all

I've got this issue on my laptop on Vista 64bit when I plug in my Hdmi to dvi cable to my 22' lcd screen.

Essentially what happens is whenever I plug it into my lcd, windows e.g. mouse curser, sound and video all stutter every 2 seconds or so. It's only when I plug in the HDMI port as it's the only video output port on the m50.

Thing is when I use the same cable on another lcd screen it works fine and when I plug the monitor into a dvi port on an old pc it works fine. I've tried updating drivers on vista for the monitors with no help, same with Nvidia drivers as it started when I was on the same drivers it was working originally using and I tried using other versions.

Only thing left to do is format but I don't want to do that, I've searched everywhere with no real help. Hope you all can

    Laptop specs:
    - Processor & Cache Memory : Core Duo T9400 2.53ghz
    - Operating System : MICROSOFT WINDOWS VISTA ULTIMATE 64bit
    - Main Memory : 2x2GB DDR2
    - Display : 15.4" WSXGA
    - Nvidia Geforce 9650GT 1g w/ Mobile Xtreme-G 177.92 Vista 64bit drivers

if you mirror the display (enable both onboard and external monitor) does it still have a problem? if you extend the display? i asume you are turning off the onboard now?

This feels like some interrupt handler isn't bheaving properly. I'd hook up a sampling profiler and see where system spikes are spent.

Hey also to add it also happens when i've cloned the screen not just extend. Also I noticed it happens when the monitor isn't when it's still plugged in. It happens when both are on and when the external is on by itself and when external is set to primary.

I have a similar problem with both my 64 bit Vista laptop (HDMI to HDMI HDTV) and 64 bit XP Desktop (DVI to HDMI HDTV).

However, it only happens when I'm using the regular internal monitor (or second DVI to DVI monitor for desktop) by itself as primary. When I use the HDTV as single and primary, it works perfectly.

Pretty much when the HDMI is connected but not in use it stutters for me, but when it is in use it doesn't stutter at all. Can't figure this one out.

Edit: Wow, this doesn't seem to be an issue for my Desktop anymore, no clue why (I just got the DVI to HDMI cable today)...

oh btw someone mentioned that the issue may have something to do with ffshadow but not sure if it is. I've tried uninstalling all my codec to no avail =[

bump, same thing happening to me with an N51Vf.... would have driven me crazy for a long time if I hadn't found this thread. As soon as I unplugged my 2nd monitor, the stuttering went away. Any fix for this?

It's been nearly a year and I've been using VGA, whenever I use my hdmi to dvi cable it comes back, when I connect it to an identical model LCD it has the same trouble, but if I connect it to two completely different size lcds of different brands, it works fine.

I don't know why it started happening and I have yet to find a solution, have tried nearly driver released through tweakforce, Nvidia and ASUS.

Even on Windows 7 64bit the problem persists
