I am creating a thread here for M51TA users who are experiencing the following issues:
1)Cooling Fan running at 100% when resuming from standby on HD3200 GPU
2)LCD not powering on after Lid is closed for over an hour when using HD3650 GPU.
M51 users, please verify that you are experiencing these issues before posting to this thread.
I will continue to update this post with user names of those who are having these problems....
Please list your user name, your Asus model (X1, X2) your OS, your BIOS version and ATI catalyst version (even if its stock Asus drivers from their site)

Hey all. Can you guys all PM me your names and email addresses so I can CC you on all my progress with Asus? If we get anywhere with them, I will pass along your info so you can be contacted as well. I will keep them private. I just want to build a case here with a little more info so we will be taken seriously. I will respond to all of you with my contact details. Lets stay positive and keep moving forward on this. I am determined not to give up on this!

(Have tried 8.10, 8.11, 8.12 as well...)
Fan and LCD issues (not so many LCD issues now), as well as random crashes, specifically when moving from power to battery. Shutting down while on power and booting back up while on battery will often force the laptop to crash when windows loads. -
Poll options are a bit weird here? It makes it look like all M51TAs must suffer from some of these two, and only these two, issues. (i.e., cannot suffer from others)
(which may be the case but I doubt it)
Maybe the title does not convey properly the intention of the poll? -
-
How about the shape it is now? I guess this is fair enough. Let me know if you disagree (by PM if I am slow to respond).
About sticky: we don't usually make model-specific stickies (there would be way too many of them) -- we just have the master info booth sticky. Give it a week or so and perhaps we'll add it there. -

2.6.29rc5 makes things worse. nolapic does no boot at all. with acpi=off recovery boot works but x server does not work properly anymore.
but maybe I messed the kernel build up. if anyone has a m51ta and some linux skills i would appreciate if he tries 2.6.29rc5 -

New Bios 207 is available... but once again from Asustreiber (also source of previous Bios 206) instead of directly from Asus..
Version: 207
Date: 02/13/09
Link: http://www.asustreiber.de/downloads/file/1167-m51taas-207
Changelog:
Fix the fan don't normal work after s3 resume in the power saving mode.
Update external VGA VBIOS to BR030816.001 to fix 3D mark will hang with Hynix VRAM.
Tested myself - flashed it with bios internal Asus flash tool (continuously press F4 at Asus bootscreen to access) - Working fine and after a few tries of sending my notebook into standby and reactivating i can confirm that the issue with the fan running at full speed after standby indeed seems to be fixed
Although it´s nice to see that the Asus support Team obviously didn´t completely ignore the complaints they received i couldn´t help but notice that although the bios seems to have been finished 2 Weeks ago it - like bios 206 - isn´t listed in the M51Ta section of the Asus support site... well, maybe they were still beta-testing the new bios? but then again bios 206 never found it´s way there at all... -
Chowbots - M51TA-X2 - Vista 32bit, Home Premium - Bios 205 - not sure
the bios 207 is now avail from ASUS, but when I tried to flash mine, it said it couldn't detect the image (pressed F4 at BIOS and navigated to image file, not zip)
I'm in a hurry atm, but I'll edit this tonight with catalyst ver and more info -
I've used various versions of the catalyst drivers, with varying results, I think I have 9.1 but I don't know how to check (2009.0113.2222.40119)
Issues I've had include:
the screen not turning back on after sleep or hibernate (sometimes, not always; seems to occur just about every time the turned off (lid closed) before the system finishes falling asleep or hibernating.
GPU fan not turning off.
not being able to switch PowerXpress status (from integrated to discrete or vice versa)
all of these are intermittent, and I haven't really been able to place the cause.
my current bios info (stock)
PLATFORM: M51Ta
VER: 205
DATE: 07/31/08
when I try to update the BIOS (M51TaAS.207), it says "Unable to recover the BIOS ROM contents." and "Unable to load BIOS image from external ROM."
when I try to downgrade the BIOS to 204(M51TaAS.204), it says "Read File Error!loading and validating BIOS binary file..." and "Unable to load BIOS image from external ROM."
I noticed in the instructions on Asus's that the example was a .BIN, so I renamed the file to end in .BIN and it worked fine
I just think it would be a good idea to point that out to other clueless users :|
