Hey, guys, I've been checking out this board for a couple of days, and I think I'm ready to buy my first laptop. I've basically narrowed down my choices to these two Asus laptops b/c they are in my price range, and will likely be able to play Starcraft 2 whenever it comes out. If you guys were to choose between these two, which would you go for.

    Here are the basic specs:

    ASUS M51 Series M51Sn-B1 NoteBook
    Intel Core 2 Duo T5550(1.83GHz)
    15.4" Wide XGA
    3GB Memory DDR2 667
    250GB HDD 5400rpm
    DVD Super Multi
    NVIDIA GeForce 9500M GS
    ~ $1000

    ASUS F8 Series F8SV-A1 NoteBook
    Intel Core 2 Duo T7500(2.20GHz)
    14" Wide XGA
    1GB+TM1GB Memory
    160GB HDD
    DVD Super Multi
    NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
    ~ $1000

Not sure what the TM1GB memory is on the F8sv exactly. Also, the screen size isn't that much of a factor to me. So, let me know what you guys think. Thanks in advance guys!!

P.S. Mods please move this thread if need be. Thanks.

TM 1GB is Intel Turbo Memory which claims to boost performace in Vista by Ready Boost and Ready Drive. It's a hit and miss feature.

It's upto what you prefer. The M51 has more RAM, bigger HDD and newer & better GPU. Also it has the numpad built in. The CPU is entry level, and you can replace it if you want to game, otherwise it's fine.

The F8sv has better CPU (do u need it ?), is smaller (again your prefrence), has less RAM (can be upgraded), and 8600-GT ( 256 DDR2), smaller HDD (can be upgraded) .

If you don't need a gaming machine I'll suggest the M51sn-B1 as it has more RAM, bigger HDD, newer and better GPU. If you want a better CPU you can upgrade later. If you want a mobile gaming machine then the F8sv will be a better bet because of a better CPU but you'll have to upgrade RAM ( 2GB must for Vista).

I'll go with m51sn if I was you.

^^ Thanks for the reply my friend. I don't really plan on gaming a bunch as I said, just SC 2 when it comes out. Until then, I just plan to use it for the internet, watching youtube, streaming shows like Lost, iTunes, etc.
