    Hi All

I'm looking at a problem Asus M5200n for someone, I want to flash the BIOS as it's behaving strangely (lines and display issues when in the BIOS) but am running into 2 problems.

    1. I can't find a BIOS update for this laptop, I beleive it was purchased in China, I'm not sure if the Asus m5 is the same thing?

    2. I guess once I find a download for a BIOS update I might find instruction on how to apply it without an OS? (The OS was wiped, everytime I go to reinstall I get an error, I'm hoping the BIOS update fixes it as I have tried a 2nd hard drive)

Can anyone either point me to a BIOS update or confirm whether m5 is the same machine (and I can use the same BIOs updates)?

    Thanks
    Gerry

m5n is the same as m5200n
no worries it should not allow flashing if it is not correct bios.
the lines do not exist outside of bios? not in windows?

Thanks for the reply, win is not on the machine, at the min I'm trying to reinstall. Sometimes it will boot off the cd other times it just stays on a black screen. Whenever I get into the install screen for windows its always fine (the text that it) but the install keeps hanging.

The BIOS screen looks like that:

Check disk on the drive in an external caddy shows no problems. To be honest I'm not sure its the BIOS but I'm running out of ideas.

try on external monitor to see if it's your screen problem, most likely not but doesn't hurt to try.
It looks to me it's mainboard or RAM issue.
