So after reading couple of the post I followed the german ftp site and found several new BIOS for M5N as well. I was using 0209 at the time (since that's the newest provided by both US and Taiwan Asus website). So I decided to give the 0912 BIOS a try. After im done flash the BIOS and reboot the computer the ASUS logo is gone instead it's replaced by this company's logo called the AMI?? So i guess my question is does any body know what are the new update that come with the 0912 BIOS (i updated because i figure it might be able to solve the FAN problem WHICH NEVER STOPS!!!!). and now it seems like the new BIOS is not doing anything. So i want to go back to 0209 BIOS but i can't cause it's a older version? Any Helps?? thanks

I've heard stories about being able to flash via a CD... but I'm not exactly sure. Try looking that up on google...
AMI? THat's quite odd... are you sure it's not just the AMI Bios logo?

well i saw the AMI logo. Then the run down of my computer configurations (you know the usual stuff like checking my hardware and stuff). But i still don't know what the 0212A BIOS will improve on the laptop. So do you mean flash via a CD to get back to the older version of BIOS??

Yes... you'll need to download a DOS flasher (e.g AWDFlash or something similar) and make a bootable CD (since you don't have a floppy drive)

Well, even though the BIOS didn't seem to do anything... why go through the trouble? If going back won't change anything...why do it?

I figure that you spend a hell of a lot more time in Windows than staring at a BIOS screen for what... 3 secs? I don't think making a bootable CD with a previous BIOS image is worth the trouble [ :D]

    AFAIK

you can change the logo back to ASUS by going to the BIOS menu and just go through one by one of the menus available , there will be like a menu which states do you want to use the default logo or soemthing like that. I kinda forgot which one but im using the 912 from the german web and still has the ASUS centrino logo

I removed the fan and heat sink briefly from the M5N this morning. After further investigation, I am of the belief that my main problem (and I suspect that of others) is not the fact that the fan runs all the time but that the fan itself produces a noticeable whine that is very annoying after extended use.

I had the fan in my hand running and it was still whining, thereby eliminating a chassis related noise or vibration. This is a solvable engineering product defect that should not have passed quality control nor been placed on the market.

I would urge others to not stand for this deficiency and to write to Mr Leon Gong in China about this ([email protected]) and to call ASUS customer support (510-739-3777 ext. 5110) to voice their concern.
